    Champion chase 2m

This has the makings of being the race of the festival particularly if ‘Sire de Grugy’ and ‘Sprinter Sacre’ line up.I have backed

    Dodging Bullets

for this at 40/1 and will be dissapointed if he doesn’t place at least,if he gets good ground this fellow will be crowned Champion as he bounces off it.Dangers a plenty, one of whom is ‘Simply Ned’ at 33/1,this is a very athletic horse almost in the ‘Deep Sensation’ mould,he’s a horse I like a lot.

    Edit,17/01/15

    Dodging Bullets

beats ‘Sprinter Sacre’ today at Ascot.Nickys face tells you he had the most handsome horse ever right for today so I’m happy my fellow will confirm form.Bookmakers react by cutting mine into 4/1.

    Edit 07/02/15

,I still see ‘Sire de Grugy’ a bigger threat to my fellow than my fellows own stable companion ‘Mr Mole’.Too many imponderables surround JP’s horse whereas my lads got everything required to win a Champion chase,I’m not panicking about the opposition……Just yet!

    Selection,;Dodging Bullets 40/1 e/w and 14/1.

No chance of changing my mind now on what is potentially my 2nd biggest windfall of the week but I do respect ‘Simply Ned’ today.

Final Selections;- Dodging Bullets 40/1 down e/w, Simply Ned 20/1 e/w

    Cross Country Chase

Not a race I get too involved in but one horse jumps off the page to me and thats the frustrating

    Quantitiveasing

    at 8/1,I’ve bought the bloody thing over the years. <!– s:shock: –><!– s:shock: –>

    Selection,; Quantitiveasing 8/1.

    Final Selection;- Quantitiveeasing 10/1

    Fred Winter hurdle

Another race I dont get too involved with but a tentative vote would go to

    Stars over the sea

    at 20/1.

Selection,; Stars over the sea 20/1.

No real opinion on this but I do like ‘All Yours’ from the Nicholls yard

Final selection;- All Yours 12/ e/w

    Champion Bumper 2m

    ,

I’ve normally got my eye on one for this but sadly not this year, nothing takes my fancy,I’ll probably bet one of the Mullins out-siders on the day and avoid their fancied runner!

    Final Selection;- Bellshill 14/1

Well done with Dodging Bullets Gord! :good: I was happy with an eighth your price. :yahoo:
Unlucky with Quantitiveasing too. Although he’s one that does not always find much off the bridle and winner was going equally as well at the time.

    Day 3,

    The Jewson 21/2m ch

Another lucky race for me this and as usual plenty proper ‘Jewson’ sorts,’Saphir du Rheu’ is not a ‘Jewson’ sort so thats that,’Ptit Zig’ has posted the most impressive piece of form and is a worthy 5/1 fav,’Vautour’ is a top class animal too and if he’s as suited to this trip as he is 2m then he too is a player. If I had to put £100 on one now though I’d go with

    Valseur Lido

at 6/1 and thats not just because he’s a Gigginstown but I do feel its the race for him.I have backed

    Champagne West

at 20’s down for this but he may well avoid his conqueror from their last meeting and go the RSA route, either way Phillip Hobbs has a proper horse on his
    hands.

    Edit,04/02/15

    ,

    Champagne West

is out for the season after injuring himself at Sandown last weekend, thats unfortunate although I wasn’t impressed with him upto the point of departure anyway.Time to find something else for this now.

    Selection,;Champagne West 20/1 e/w

This is how confidence affects you,I’ve long fancied ‘Valseur’ for this and have backed him to win only at 6/1 but I now have a sneaky feeling that Paul Nicholls could wave his magic wand again with ‘Irish Saint’14/1.

Final Selections;- Irish Saint 14/1 e/w Valseur Lido win 6/1

    Pertemps final 3m

TAPK’s got his eye on one here and Stan James have priced him up at 25/1.

    Sybarite

caught my eye big time last time out over the course itself, admittedly he still finished behind horses that will all clash in the final itself but this Jenny Mould (Charter Party/Barton Bank) owned horse looks like one being laid out for this.I have the utmost respect for ‘Big Easy’ too and at 12/1 is worth a punt also.Long term I’d expect

    Ulzanas Raid

to progress the furthest but the handicapper is watching him carefully at the moment.I dont fancy the current Fav ‘Batavir’.

    Edit,03/02/15

, I think we may have seen the winner of this at Musslebrough on Sunday in

    Dawalan

,he got the trip well and has a bit of speed to boot,I took the 12/1 with Bet 365 straight after,

    Selection,; Sybarite 25/1 e/w, Dawalan 12/1 e/w

    .

If I had a banker for the handicaps this week I’d say it was ‘Sybarite’ 25/1,I also have to give both ‘Dawalan’ 12/1 and ‘Big Easy’ 10/1 god shouts too.

Final Selections;- Sybarite 25/1 down, Dawalan 12/1, Big Easy 10/1 all e/w

    Ryanair ch 2 1/2m

Just the mention of this race gets me going, probably my luckiest race of the meeting and whenever I think of it I think of the mighty

    Albertas Run

.Unlike Joe (Steeplechasing),when I find a good one I stick with it,I cant forget what ‘Cue Card’ did to my good thing a couple of years ago and I still believe the Tizzard horse is the biggest danger to my selection this year.

    Taquin du Seuil

at 16/1 did me proud in the ‘Jewson’ last year and straight away I said ‘Ryanair’ even though he’s well tipped up as a Gold Cup horse I’m sticking by my own judgement and that aint easy when we all get influenced by others.’Johns Spirit’ also has ‘Ryanair’ written all over him,he’s too good for handicaps now and thats because he’s improved like the good horse he is,plenty scope for more to come and at 12/1 he too is a player.’Dynaste’ is a worthy fav and ‘Don Cossack’ has progressive form but I can see my lads beating both.

Selection,; Taquin du Seuil 16/1 and Johns Spirit 12/1 e/w

My banker of the whole meeting last year was ‘Taquin’,I couldn’t see him beaten. This year some would say they cant see him winning anything…

Final Selections;- Taquin du seuill 16/1 e/w Johns Spirit 12/1 e/w

    World hurdle

If for some reason last years Champion stayer doesn’t turn up for this years renewal then I reckon

    Annie Power

will target this rather than the Mares final.Bookmakers go 7/2 ‘More of That’ but 12/1 is freely available about the Mullins Mare and that is huge, personally I’d be going 4/1 the pair as I can see ‘Annie’ pushing Jonjo’s horse even harder this year.My first Ante-Post bet for this was taking 33/1 about

    Whisper

progressing to this level after victories against ‘Get me out of Here’ and ‘At Fishers Cross’,I wasn’t totally convinced about his chasing debut so a return to hurdling could still yet be on the cards.’Lieutenant Colonel’ is an RSA horse for next year imo and ‘Beat That’ hasn’t convinced me he’s a World hurdler,’Zarkandar’ will travel till something out-battles him and I just hope ‘Rock on ruby’ doesn’t run,he’d have a better chance runnin em ragged in the Champion hurdle.

    Edit, 15/01/15,

    Saphir du Rheu

gets a Cleeve hurdle entry and World hurdle entry so have taken the 34’s on the machine for the latter. This decision allows me now to commit to a selection and this fellow is it….’Big Bucks’ here we come!

Selection,; Saphir du Rheu 34’s and 12/1 e/w

This is todays big one for me and I’m more than happy with my 2 Ante-Post selections.I expect both to be placed and if they run to their best they will be.

Final Selections;- Saphir du Rheu 34’s down Whisper 33/1 down both e/w

    Byrne Group plate 21/2m

Stan James are going 20/1 about a previous festival winner here in

    Present View

and Imo thats huge to 4 places. The Paddy Power Gold cup form will come to the fore here and thats why the very progressive ‘Caid du Berlais’ is the 10/1 Fav,my fellow will be weighted to reverse that form.’Johns Spirit’will hopefully take the Ryanair route as he is the best horse in the Decs for this.I wouldn’t write off ‘Hunt Ball’ either he’s a Cheltenham horse for sure.

    Selection,; Present View 20/1 e/w

I’m all over the only horse who will probably hit every fence here and yet I fancy him strongly.

    Final Selection;- Buywise 10/1 e/w

    Kim Muir 3m 1f ch

‘Hunt Ball’ is the current 14/1 fav for this and again I wouldn’t put anyone off backing him. I have a sneaky feeling for

    Rolling Aces

at 20/1,he has bits of solid form that make him a stand out for this, what price would ‘Boston bob’ be for this?..7/2fav I’d say so 20/1 about Paul Barbers charge is worth the risk. Its a race I’ve done exceptionally well in over the years so I dont treat it lightly.

    Selection,; Rolling Aces 20/1 e/w

I have 2 very strong fancies for this, one because he has the form to be a major player, ‘Just a Par’ 16/1 the other simply because I believe the conditions of the race will suit and if JP forgives him more than he deserves too this fellow could surprise,he has the pace to run away from these if he chose too..’Tap Night’!

Final Selections;- Just a Par 16/1, Tap Night 16/1 both e/w
