Not sure how I feel with Spencer being on Snow Lantern……hopefully we get a masterclass hold up ride from him but I can also see him finding every bit of trouble and finishing close up without getting a run.
July 28, 2021 at 14:21 #1552355Happy connections of the two 3yo fillies are having a crack at this. The race is much richer for it. I hope one of them wins for this reason, but cannot see past happy Jims colt unfortunately.

July 28, 2021 at 15:01 #1552359Poetic Flare
Alcohol Free
Both win
Century Dream
Space Traveller
Both each way
Simply cannot back snow lantern with this jockey on board. If he does as he is told all well and good. But he gave a good horse twenty lengths to make up at Newmarket on Friday with more besides before whipping it repeatedly to be beaten a nose. That is a horse which may well have won by a length or more if ridden up with the pace. First Dance was the race.
Nine day ban will not stop his tactics.
Alcohol Free won on heavy ahead of snow lantern.
Poetic Flare has some soft ground form way back and was not far off stablemate on poor ground.July 28, 2021 at 15:38 #1552360Wd winners.
Ground made the difference in the end i think.
July 28, 2021 at 15:41 #1552361Spencer thinking he’s on pythagoras again leaving far too much to do
July 28, 2021 at 15:49 #1552362Bet all the people who had been slating levey realise now he was doing nothing wrong
That was awful from spencer
July 28, 2021 at 15:59 #1552366Disagree with that FF. She didn’t have a dream trip, but got absolutely left for dead by Alcohol Free. Wouldn’t be surprised if thats the last time we see Snow Lantern over 1m.

July 28, 2021 at 16:11 #1552368I thought it was interesting them commenting on the 3 year olds dominating, they were the front 3 in the market and we’ve known a long time bar Palace Pier the older lot are pants. If Palace Pier does end up going up in trip why would you want to send either of the fillies the same way this division is there for the taking
July 28, 2021 at 17:01 #1552375SL was upsides AF (albeit on her inside) early in the straight and instead of pulling out to follow her through Spencer was looking to go the inside route and as such gave AF a big head start before he got SL out (by which time the bird had flown so to speak). Not his finest ride but not shocked by it if I am honest as it is 50/50 that that is what you will get with him……coolest dude ever when he gets it right but a complete muppet when he doesn’t.
I don’t think there is much between the two fillies but I do believe SL has more improvement in her, whether that is at 10F I am not sure because at that trip there will be a bigger onus on her dropping the bridle to conserve her stamina….I understand why they chose this race and if I were connections I wouldn’t be opposed to taking the winner on again at 1m maybe in something like the Sun Chariot or the QE2 especially given the likelyhood of softer ground at Ascot and no Palace Pier.
July 28, 2021 at 17:28 #1552379Stone Lantern did not really seem to be in the mood today, normally needs a bit more restraining early on.
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysJuly 28, 2021 at 17:43 #1552381Think that it is a case of she might be starting to learn to settle instead of wasting energy by pulling – although she couldn’t really pull today as she was surrounded on all sides early on.
July 28, 2021 at 17:49 #1552383I appreciate Snow Lantern is somewhat of a forum favourite, but Alcohol Free left her for dead today, its as simple as that in my opinion. The ride had nowt to do with it.
The form could no doubt be reversed on another day – certainly a stiffer track will be in SL’s favour. Two classy fillies, Alcohol Free having the better form – for now.

July 28, 2021 at 18:01 #1552387Hopefully at some stage we see them face off where there is no trouble in running (Ascot/Goodwood) for Snow Lantern and Alcohol Free doesn’t have to make her own running (Newmarket) to find out which filly is the best.
This has the makings of an interesting ongoing rivalry through the rest of the season if they both stay sound…….currently 2-1 to AF, game on!
July 28, 2021 at 21:42 #1552422The older horses put firmly in their place by this season’s 3 year olds. They seemed to be looking at Poetic Flare’s back legs after the race, and he did seem to me to be walking a bit feelingly when he came back (though I am certainly no expert). He was whisked away very quickly (long before the “horses away” announcement). Hope he’s ok. Perhaps his busy schedule has caught up with him.
I’d be surprised if any connections are as thrilled as those of Space Traveller. Got to be worth following when he drops back to a more realistic level. He looked great in the paddock.
July 29, 2021 at 11:24 #1552470Didn’t see anything wrong with the ride on Snow Lantern, there are few better than Spencer at getting a horse settled. Both horse and rider did well to get 3rd place in the end for me.
It looked like she was crying out to be running in the Nassau instead, although she still won over 100 grand and would have to finish in the first 2 in the Nassau to beat that.July 29, 2021 at 15:16 #1552511I’ve watched the race over a few times.
Oisin Murphy took consumate delight in keeping Jamie Spencer boxed in. He was not alone if you watch. Looks as though there was also some verbals.
When he pulled clear he looked over his shoulder to see if snow lantern was out yet. Smiling like a Cheshire cat.July 30, 2021 at 14:33 #1552690Wonder if haggas regrets not running baaeed
Looks very much like a proper group 1 horse
Only thing is if he is like mohaafeth or al aasy and finds nothing for pressure
