I wasn’t impressed by palace pier, would much rather be with Poetic Flair on good ground
June 15, 2021 at 23:37 #1545705Id make palace pier 50/50 to turn up let alone win
Poetic flare is a tempting price
June 16, 2021 at 06:58 #1545720I think Palace Pier is the more versatile of the two myself and although he visually looks like the one of the two who’d benefit from a step up in trip the reality is he’s been able to win Group 1’s regardless of the pace in the race (steady yesterday and in last years SJP, very strong in the Lockinge) and regardless of the ground. He’s not a slow horse by any stretch he just seems to travel less kindly than Poetic Flare. By contrast Poetic Flare appears to have benefitted from nicer ground and a strong pace in both his Group 1 wins and although he’s performed very well he’s been beaten in steadier run contests on worse ground in France and at the Curragh.
June 16, 2021 at 07:46 #1545724Would make a great match up
Palace Pier needs a stronger pace than he had yesterday and also a longer lead and Poetic Flare would bring out the best in him. Worth noting Palace Pier was sweating a fair bit more than normal.
That said with the weight allowance Poetic Flare could prove tough to crack but I’d side with the Gosden horse on the day but not AP with talk of stepping up or if staying at a mile the French race may also come into considerationBlackbeard to conquer the World
June 16, 2021 at 08:44 #1545731Poetic Flare 7-2 with cash out option.
As mentioned in other thread PP wants a stiffer mile than Goodwood really when the ground is quick. They didnt go last year over concern with the sharp mile and they are already thinking about a race at 10f as well in this campaign.
St Marks Bassilica is next best in the market and i don’t see the sharp mile on fast ground at Goodwood suiting him better than Poetic Flare.June 16, 2021 at 10:40 #1545745To be fair Mike its hard to argue with that logic the only plausible opposition I can see to Poetic Flare if not Palace Pier is Master Of The Seas but not sure what the timeline is regarding his recovery from injury and I don’t think he’s even entered? I believe Lucky Vega has been retired now after yesterday. The older milers as we know are pretty ordinary bar PP.
June 20, 2021 at 20:45 #1547031Same as Mike Poetic Flare 7/2 I think Palace pier not turn up
July 11, 2021 at 11:57 #1550340Battleground win @ 16’s
Looks as a good a time as any.
July 13, 2021 at 06:49 #1550625Would love to see Baaeed supplemented for this.
Not seen any such suggestions from connections, sadly.
July 13, 2021 at 11:44 #1550645Sounds like they are minding him looking to protect him a little for next year
What I read suggests he was going to have a bit of a break then have another run outside of group 1s before stepping up in grade at the end of the season
July 19, 2021 at 16:14 #1551316Market beginning to strongly suggest palace pier isn’t running
Poetic flare as short as evs in places
July 20, 2021 at 04:48 #1551387Unless battleground or Wembley get back to form then it’s a penalty kick for poetic flare.
Order of Australia set to run but can’t see him winning although a good ew bet. Be very disappointing if pp didn’t run.July 20, 2021 at 12:45 #1551409Palace Pier confirmed as being out
Suffered a blood condition after ascot
Goes to the JLM same as last year
Dissapointed the owners aren’t being ambitious and going for the juddmonte
July 26, 2021 at 11:07 #1552033Its a very interesting race now that snow lantern and alcohol free are both taking on poetic flare
The colts 3yo mile division has had no depth at all
So be interesting to see who comes out on top
July 26, 2021 at 12:59 #1552038Ground conditions now throw the race a bit up in the air re Poetic Flare’s chance as his best runs have come on quick ground.
I like Snow Lantern (felt she really should have won at Royal Ascot) but also don’t dismiss Century Dream (as although fairly exposed) he won last year’s Celebration Mile over course and distance on soft ground and can front run which may be the best place to be with a lot of the favoured horses needing to come from off the pace which could invite traffic problems.July 27, 2021 at 10:01 #1552129Reminds me of the year Ribchester got beat by Here Comes When at 20/1. I wouldn’t be touching any shorties this week its proper specialist ground. To be honest I hate punting when the ground gets like this as you get the known mudlarks shortening to silly prices and you either have to take a chance on something with proven ability you aren’t sure about on the ground or accept you’ve missed the value on the mudlarks… or steer clear entirely.
July 27, 2021 at 12:46 #1552167Palace Pier dropping out and the weather seems to have helped Hannon’s decision coming here
good luckBlackbeard to conquer the World
