Not sure who is saying that. I said I thought he could be the next best Galileo AFTER Frankel – but there is quite a gap. And he still has a fair way to go before he is even that. You don’t give the horse much credit Stevie.
He’s only had the one race where he looked awesome though Joni. The French Guineas gave us the possibility that he could be extra special but it’s not panned out like that so far.
He’s a grand colt and a great early spot by yourself. I thought he looked a horse for further when winning his maiden on mud but he’s a lot faster than that.
I feel in racing we tend to try to put the crown on before the coronation and when you see three horses sweep past the post tightly matched it would be highly unlikely that they are all champions.
As I said, the way the Channel 4 team were going on about it, you would have thought The Gurkha had routed his field.
Whatever way you look at it, The Gurkha has won three and lost three in his six races. I like horses who go unbeaten when it comes to looking for the outstanding ones over the years. Others may look at it differently.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

C4 may have gone overboard, some exaggerate the achievement Steve.
Others don’t seem to want to give enough credit.Value Is EverythingJuly 28, 2016 at 12:19 #1257971Fair enough Stevie. He hasn’t blown away the opposition since France but he is building up a good portfolio of consistency at the highest level. Time will tell how much more he has to offer. Gore – I have a friend doing an act at the Edinburgh Festival. If you want I can have a word and see if he can get you a spot…..
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
July 28, 2016 at 13:25 #1257994I’m not saying he’s a world beater, but that he’s the best of those three. Again, not based so much on his Sussex win but on performances when conditions have been far from ideal – the mark of a very, very good horse

It’s hard for me to say that he’s clearly better than Galileo Gold based on this one narrow win though Joe. There’s only a fag paper in it on ratings and we have seen plenty of times in racing that it’s all about the horse on the day that happens to run that bit better.
This was Galileo Gold’s toughest assignment on ground so quick and he’s got a pretty strong profile when there is some juice in the ground.
If they clashed again and it was soft, you could make a case for Galileo Gold being harder to pass out in front and depending on the odds I might be right back on the Palmer colt.
How do we feel Zelzal would measure up with these Sussex runners? The Gurkha thrashed him in the French Guineas but it seems certain that Rouget’s colt never ran his race that day and he’s only 2 lbs behind The Gurkha on Racing Post Ratings in his otherwise unbeaten career.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 28, 2016 at 18:35 #1258074Tell you one thing…if Zelzal was in the Sussex he would of won it easily!! I would be of had a serious wager on him.
July 28, 2016 at 19:37 #1258082He has had to cram in 6 races since April having never run as a 2 year old. I’d love to see him as a 4 year old as he could be seen at his peak.
