Agreed Jaso. Unfortunately Harry Fry seems to be of a similar opinion, already bleating about the horse being ground-dependent and not wanting to run him on drying ground. Worth remembering Metier did a very good time at Ascot on good-to-soft. And he’s by Mastercraftsman out of a mare who could run to 100+ on good ground. I’d be shocked if he couldn’t act at the big spring festivals.
Fry gets a lot of quality bumper horses and good novices who get injured or go off the rails without realising their potential when he goes for a long-term fancy play. Maybe somebody should put a copy of To His Coy Mistress on his desk. Carpe diem! Carpe diem!
Fortunately he seems to be hoping for the handicapper to leave Metier on 142 so he can target the Betfair Hurdle. I think he’d be lucky to be south of 150 at the next update. Maybe that will force his hand.
January 3, 2021 at 11:32 #1516233Jasolong this is what Harry Fry said yesterday regarding the ground…
“He comes alive on the racecourse and relishes those conditions.”
“I wouldn’t be in too much of a hurry to run him on drying ground because of his rounded action, although good horses have to be able to run on all ground. He can hopefully go a long way over hurdles, and not just this season, which is exciting.”So until he does it over hurdles on decent ground, he’s basically a mudlark.
January 3, 2021 at 17:04 #1516269Jesus ship a copy of to his coy mistress , that’s a bit intellectual for us lot , my desk has a copy of the racing post , a Haynes manual for a ford fiesta and dirty mug ….. It was a good brew though
January 6, 2021 at 18:25 #1516641Cashed out Flinteur Sacre. May lose the cash out option when it goes NRNB so had to make a decision.
January 6, 2021 at 22:14 #1516673Don’t blame you Mike I have the same dilemma. Hendo recently said in a blog we won’t be seeing him anytime soon. That could mean anything and it wasn’t injury or anything he just said he needs to spend a lot of time on trying to settle him down. But to me it didn’t sound like he’s anywhere near the finished article for them and may not even see him run again prior to Cheltenham and if that’s the case he won’t turn up.
Although, anytime soon could mean anything so maybe he will run in February, who knows but it doesn’t sound goodJanuary 6, 2021 at 22:50 #1516675Flinteur Sacre must have clear ability when you consider the combination of just how badly he ran with the fact he wasn’t a million miles away from My Drogo. For me he just didn’t look anywhere near being ready to be a racehorse. Far too much to learn.
January 12, 2021 at 14:44 #1517317Magic Tricks entered in the Moscow Flyer Sunday.
January 13, 2021 at 01:27 #1517366Not blown away by anything yet in this, bar Appreciate It, but I’ve taken a chance on Magic Tricks too, for all I’m not convinced he’ll go.

January 16, 2021 at 21:23 #1517922It doesn’t look the strongest renewal at the moment. I will take a little gamble and back For Pleasure at 50/1 EW.
He has a lot of runs under his belt already, although he still seems to keen in every run. Since the summer he has improved massively. In July he won a handicap of 107 (unchallenged). He won a week later of 114 (a bit more work). Nothing special so far, but in september he won a novice hurdle trashing the very decent Shantou Express and One True King, despite giving them almost a stone.
He ran again in October and was favourite for a listed hurdle at Kempton, but he basically refused to run right handed. So you can forgive him that run. The bookies didn’t however, because he was a big price for the Supreme Trial at Cheltenham at the November meeting. Good for me! (some shameless after timing). It was quite a decent field, but a strange race. For Pleasure once again ran very keen, but the others seems to underestimate him a gave him 10 lengts at the start of the race. For Pleasure made an error at the second from home and it looked like they would catch him, but he kicked on again and won comfortably. Only Third Time Lucki finished close. I think Third Time Lucki had every chance to catch him, but didn’t. And he is the third favourite at the moment, after Apprecitate It and Metier.
Alex Hales already confirmed that he will go to the Supreme. He will probably run in the Betfair Hurdle or in Supreme Trial at Haydock. Hopefully no false start in the Supreme and not too much competition for the lead, but at least the big guns in the betting aren’t front runners.

January 25, 2021 at 03:17 #1519631Well I’ll be. Flinteur Sacre with two entries for this week. Could be a bit of a stretch to believe he’ll make it here, although if he comes through in the manner of the horse he’s believed to be, who knows in a fairly weak looking year
January 25, 2021 at 10:23 #1519640It’s madness that people completely wrote him off after his hurdles debut. The horse was as green as grass!! Did absolutely everything wrong. Although I do believe he is just too immature this season to be honest he will probably be a much better horse next season. But you never know, maybe hendo has worked his magic and he will settle and jump better this time. I’d say he’s certainly got plenty of natural ability
January 25, 2021 at 10:35 #1519642It’s also madness that he was the next Sprinter Sacre before he even ran over hurdles. When you’re hyped that much, and perform like he did, then there’s going to be massive deflation afterwards.
Agree though, probably a work in progress rather than a festival winner this year. For all, if he wins this week, he’ll all of a sudden be priced + talked as one.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 29, 2021 at 15:18 #1520223Looked a carbon copy of his last race
learnt nothing
as yetCharles Darwin to conquer the World
January 29, 2021 at 15:24 #1520225Yep the horse is a bit of a pig at the minute and far too immature. I said he would be much better next season but I’m not even confident of that anymore as he’s so unprofessional you’d never be confident in him. Maybe good ground fast pace race would help but wow he won’t be ready for another 4 years haha
January 29, 2021 at 16:02 #1520228“he won’t be ready for another 4 years haha”
I’m off to try to find a price for the 2025 Arkle.
I’ll let you know how I get on.
February 7, 2021 at 14:24 #1521961Much more like it from ballyadam today
Appreciate it a worthy fav but my ballyadam slips not going in the bin yet
His jumping is slowly improving, bar the last which cost him a length or so, and he looks all speed so spring ground may help him too
February 7, 2021 at 14:29 #1521964Cant see anything beating appreciate it at chelt, off a stronger pace that he doesnt have to make, which he will get, nothing will be staying up the hill better, ballyadam much better today but yeah, he wont be beating him at chelt for me under a stronger pace, nice ride by jack i thought.
Everything else in behind wont be winning at chelt, a few will be used to set a strong gallop id assume though.
