For me Getabird should be in the Ballymore, the Moscow Flyer was run on borderline heavy ground and his first run this season was a win over 2m4f on heavy and he has also won a point over 3m on yeilding ground as a 4 yr old. Unless the weather gods turn Cheltenham soft on the first day, running him over 2m on good/good to soft will not play to his strengths and he may find speedier types being a little to quick for him at that trip.

Also bear in mind that Sharjah was a 10-12F horse on the flat and whilst he has won on heavy ground, the way he travels in his races would suggest that a quicker surface could likely bring further improvement in him – for a horse that has never gone further than 2m, I don’t think trying a 5f longer trip for the first time at the Cheltenham Festival is in his best interests personally.

Seems a somewhat similar scenario to the year Mullins/Ricci had Douvan and Faugheen as novice hurdlers, going into Cheltenham the furthest Douvan had won over was a 2m 1f hurdle in France whilst Faugheen had won a point in Ireland over 3m as a 4 yr old and had won his last 3 races prior to Cheltenham over 2m6f, 2m4f and 3m respectively.

The races quite easily picked themselves for them that time and it should be the same this time round as well.

Seems the ballymore or albert bartlett is more of the choice for champ now, hes running against one of my AB fancies santini at just over 2m5f tomorrow, he had a host of entries all at longer distances than the supreme.

    Douvan and Faugheen

It was Vautor and Faugheen. The next year one won the champion hurdle the other won the JLT, so they might be thinking they shouldn’t pigeon hole horses? I dunno, second guessing Mullins is a minefield.

They’ll see what Sharjah does in the deloitte hurdle.

If they switch Getabird to the ballymore, it wouldn’t shock me if Samcro rocks up in the Supreme.

Hadn’t realised that he was running over further tomorrow.

Henderson really thought Champ was one of his best this year coming into it. That alone suggests he’s classy. Because they have so many cracking youngsters in the yard.

I have been running round in circles trying to decide how to approach this. Decided in the end to back Western Ryder at 33’s and Lalor at 50’s. Both have decent bumper form and I am prepared to put a line through WR last run.

I am hoping that Sharjah and Reel Steal run well at the Dublin Fez and Getabird goes for the Neptune….

The way Sharjah tanked through the last race, he’d be a tentative selection of the two…but Reel Steal ran a bizarre race and might well be better than that.

My view on the RR/ Mullins side of things….

I’m very sweet on Sharjah Jack. The way he moved to the last before coming down was very impressive. The fact Mullins has only entered him in the 2 mile race next weekend suggests to me that the horse is an out n out 2 miler. Getabird is entered in the same race and the 2 mile 6f, surely the Ballymore is favourite for him.

Personally I’d be amazed if Getabird goes for the neptune. Showed so much pace last time out they’ll surely target the supreme. I think he surprised them the pace he showed there, before that race they were probably split 50/50 neptune and supreme, but that race tipped the balance for them. imo.

It’s also not the case in my view where he’s got two of roughly similar ability like when he had faugheen and vautour. In my view Getabird is a cut above all the over novices they have in the stable.

As much as his turn of foot looked great…If Sharjah turns up and wins 2miler at Lep…what happens? Ricci will not run two in the same race i dont think especially since, one would be perfectly capable of running over further (Getabird) so much so, they have been quoted as saying they would imagine he’d need the extra yardage

Not sure that sharjah race was much kop… fav ran out and the race kind of fell apart after that.. and as impressive as he looked before the last you also have to take into account the fact that he took a crashing fall.. are the decs up for this leopardstown race?

    They are indeed Judge.

Agree, hard to tell form wise, and to be honest normally a ricci horse wouldnt be 6 or 7s going into a race like he was at Xmas….just based on the performance, if he was to confirm it this time and actually win, i’d say theyd find it hard to throw 2 at one race…

I’ll be shocked if Getabird isn’t turning up for the Supreme. He has put down the best 2m performance this year, in the race that produced Min, Douvan etc. He’s unbeaten. Ruby will front-run him like he has done with so many others to great effect.

Sharjah might be a pure two miler, strongly doubt he’s as good as Getabird though so let them both in same race & win it.

Samcro will go to Ballymore, and they can take him on with Reel Steel & Duc de Genievre. Next Destination can try & break their AB hoodoo.

Getabird goes to this one… And is probably my most likely winner now despite me thinking it was prob down to a couple of the English horses for the last 6 months (Claimantakinforgan, If the cap fits). I see the former holds an entry for the ballymore trial on Saturday?? Why would you go 2m4 on soft and then back to 2m on good to soft? Hopefully he won’t engage

an impressive Sharjah win next week and this could well be the likely outcome.

    Sharjah – Supreme
    Getabird – Ballymore
    Next Destination – Albert Bartlett

    :good:

I am adding Samcro @ 10/1 NRNB for the Supreme (B365).
