Well done McCain, one of the best trainers around.
Same to Maguire, one of the top jocks.
March 13, 2012 at 13:47 #396167Although there wasn’t much to cover the first five it had the feeling of a good renewal. All credit to the winner for kicking away the final flight and still having enough in reserve to go on.
March 13, 2012 at 13:48 #396168Still have faith in Montbazon.
Travelled very well inspite of putting in a horrendous round of jumping. He’s given away a ridiculous amount of lengths. He’s only flattened after the last ; i think he is the best long-term prospect out of these IMO.
March 13, 2012 at 13:49 #396169Spot on, J17. He and Broadback Bob come out of the race smelling of roses IMO.
March 13, 2012 at 13:49 #396170Well done Donald and and all who backed CAA
Time and the type of horses in the first four (speedy sorts) suggests the ground is faster than advertised.
Darlan did well to come from some way back. Only one of first 4 to do so.

He will have a bright future over fences.
Maguire is an excellent judge of pace, expect Overturn to place after that.

Broadback bob? Struggling to think of what this typo meant to say!
Montbazon for an Arkle next year IMO.
March 13, 2012 at 13:55 #396173With Prospect Wells and Montbazon right up there at the finish, I still think Steps To Freedom is as good as the winner.
Cinders And Ashes is very game though – I think he would be suited to the Arkle next year if he can jump.

Alice Plunkett reckons it’s softer just because CAA, who has form on heavy, won….

March 13, 2012 at 19:17 #396334Galileo’s bloomin’ poor.
Well done if you backed the winner, I would never have selected that one.
I wonder if Darlan will become a nearly horse…

Mark said it for me.
March 13, 2012 at 23:25 #396450Backed Trif myslelf and felt he would have won but for slipping round the home turn. Add to that having a pig of a jockey on board and the horse done himself justice and is the one I’d take outta the race.
March 13, 2012 at 23:54 #396460Just watched the replay on RUK as I was at the track. I backed Montbazon and he must have hit almost every hurdle. Personally, I still think potentially he could be the best horse in that race. May be wrong, but i certainly retain the faith in him.
Fair play to Cinders and Ashes however.

March 14, 2012 at 03:40 #396490Today was my first proper look at Cinders And Ashes, and when the coverage on 4 took us round the paddock, my first instinct was he looked a fair bit bigger and rangier than the rest out there and he’d probably be suited more to fences. Watching him throughout the race, under what must be said was a top ride by Maguire who had him perfectly placed throughout, even with a couple of mistakes, he was so much better than his rivals and I think he will go on to good things. The way as well he came from being seemingly lost at the bottom of the hill to roar past the pack showed his staying power and he will surely go further. I didn’t think there was much chance of me saying this before today, but I believe this chap means business.
