Snap!!!
After he won the Punchstown Bumper last year I though he could be an Ascot Gold Cup horse
February 7, 2010 at 14:24 #274671Wow!
Awesome performance, think he gave them about a 6-8 length start aswell. Think I said a few pages back he’d go off odds on at Cheltenham and now I’m certain of it.
Seriously impressive horse is that, even allowing for a few mistakes!
February 7, 2010 at 14:26 #274672He does look like an incredibly talented animal, that was breathtaking.
Would you want to see him run on firm ground at Ascot?
I wouldn’t.
Just how good he is remains to be seen.
He could well be something very, very special.February 7, 2010 at 17:50 #274722Even Money is still value……easily he go 1/2 on the day
The race will cut up very badly after that performance
February 7, 2010 at 20:28 #274772Didn’t really do anymore than was expected against a fairly average bunch of hurdlers. Rightly favourite for the supreme and will probably win but just doesn’t jump well enough for me to back him. I hope they have no plans to bury him away in a large field on the frantic run to the first or there could easily be a large groan from the stands as he tumbles!
February 7, 2010 at 20:58 #274782I’ll be taking him on in the opener, have already laid a bit of odds-on on Betfair. He jumped like a blindfolded yak today making 3 significant errors and at least 2 more sloppy leaps. He reminds me of Cousin Vinny, a top bumper horse who couldn’t make the transition to top-class hurdling (or chasing for that matter). At odds-on this fella’s a lay.
February 7, 2010 at 21:07 #274789People just out to get him I think – nothing wrong with his jumping for a novice; besides, he can only improve – anyone willing to lay him are taking a big risk IMO, this fellow is surely the banker of the festival. Dunguib is in a different league to what Cousin Vinny achieved prior to Cheltenham.
February 7, 2010 at 21:45 #274796Dunguib is different class to Cousin Vinny. I suspect he could win a listed/Group 3 on the Flat over 1m6f+. Having said that I don’t back anything at that price for Cheltenham and will be looking at the market without particularly as I don’t fancy the second favourite at all.
February 7, 2010 at 21:59 #274800Cousin Vinny and Dunguib are totally different horses. CV won a poor enough renewal of the Cheltenham bumper and wasn’t half as impressive as Dunguib in doing it. Dunguib murdered the likes of Shinrock Paddy, Luska Lad and Rite Of Passage (who won a November handicap by a country mile giving Donnas Palm a stone and a half).
Cousin Vinny also had a scratchy enough action and that is always a concern when you’re sending a horse over timber.
I think many of our trainers are going to avoid him at Cheltenham now. Shark Hanlon has already said that Luska Lad won’t run and I know Weld holds Dunguib in the highest regard. He couldn’t believe how easily he beat Rite Of Passage last year. He thought Rite Of Passage was a good thing and apparently he told Fenton afterwards that he should consider the Melbourne Cup for Dunguib! Pat Smullen has also said that he has never seen anything like Dunguib that day. He thought he was tanking along on ROP and he was shocked when Dunguib pulled alongside him with Brian trying to hold on to him.
Barring a fall at Cheltenham I think he’ll win 5L+
February 7, 2010 at 22:01 #274801Dunguib should go for the Arc
February 7, 2010 at 22:07 #274803Nah, he should go for the July Cup
February 8, 2010 at 07:38 #274833Dunguib should go for the Arc
Some will write that off as a daft suggestion but I really think they should test this horse on the flat and find out how good he is. He is an absolute freak. Doubt it will happen but would be amazing to see.
February 8, 2010 at 11:21 #274854There’d be no point in trying him on the flat, why risk damaging him?
Read the excellent article posted and you’ll see that he does cause his connections a bit of worry,he’s not the hardiest of beasts by the sound of it.
It remains to be seen just how good this horse can be.
If he stays then we could be looking at one of the best in many years, just pray that they can keep him sound.
Let’s hope they have one that we can all drool over for many years to come.So very exciting.
February 8, 2010 at 11:46 #274856I’ve only just realised that I’m going on Supreme Novices day so I’ll see him; can’t tell you how excited I am about that! One of those cases of the horse finding the right people..the rest [hopefully] being history.
February 8, 2010 at 13:43 #274878Re Dunguib on the flat
No I wouldn’t want him to run in The Ascot Gold Cup unless the going was right, it can happen but rarely and being in the height of summer might screw up his NH preperation. Just dreaming, not that I think Yates could cope with Dunguib
Re The Arc, I remember with great warmth the out and out stayer Ardross making a valiant effort to reel in the usual Arc horses (failed by a sht hd), it might be a tad short for Dunguib but intersting of course.
He’s a box walker so The Melbourne Cupo is a non starter.
Irish St Leger would be a penalty kick at a better time in the season than some of the other options
