I can remember the 1st time i saw Dancing Brave! It was his debut at Sandown in the Autumn of 1985 over a mile, he beat a colt of Jeremy tree"s called Mighty memory easily by 3l, i had £20 on at evens, he returned the 4/6 fav! He then went to Newmarket for the Soham stakes again over the guineas mile and justified odds of 4/9 easily! That completed
his 2yo campaign, I was convinced i had seen the 2,000 gns winner so i invested £25 e/w at 16/1.What was so apparant about Dancing Brave was his Athletiscism, i had never seen a horse move quite like him and he had an almost strange confirmation in that his front legs looked shorter than they should be! He had a thick neck and a slightly high head carriage but the way he moved had me spellbound! I waited all through the winter for his re;appearsnce and it came in the Craven stakes again over the rowley mile, the perfect trial for the Guineas, he didn"t dissapoint at 11/8 easily beating H.Cecils Faraway Dancer! The Brave was made 4/1 fav for the Guineas so i had another £25 win! The Guineas itself was one of those races where everything went perfectly to plan and he won easily from Green Desert and Huntingdale at 15/8 fav! Mission accomplished! the best
horse i have ever seen! I then had to back him for the Derby at 12/1 but thats another story!!November 6, 2008 at 01:30 #188206My most successful antepost bet was Maljimar for the 2008 Paddy Power Gold Cup.
November 6, 2008 at 02:04 #188212I have only ever had one Ante Post bet. I had a winning 1000 Guineas/2000 Guineas double on Flying Water and Wollow in 1976. I got out while I was winning!
November 6, 2008 at 03:30 #188231Successful[/color:128z5x3o]: Silver Birch – Welsh Grand National @ 14/1 (7/2 on the day)
Unsuccessful:[/color:128z5x3o] Point Barrow – Grand National @ 25/1 (8/1 on the day, fell at first fence)November 6, 2008 at 03:42 #188232Sublimity 80/1 Champion Hurdle [should’ve been 100/1 but didn’t know about oddschecker then] and Diamond Tycoon 100/1 for last years guineas.
November 6, 2008 at 03:48 #188234Point Barrow – Grand National @ 25/1 (8/1 on the day, fell at first fence)
Yes, i remember that.
I wasnt on Ante-Post but on the actual day and couldnt believe it when he had fallen at the first.
November 6, 2008 at 03:59 #188236Mounty,
Is that the same Maljimar that was getting near on 2 stone from
Knowhere over the course last year and flattered to decieve! Or is it the Maljimar that struggled to beat the 126 rated Burntoakboy over the course earlier this year! Or even the Maljimar that could do with being rated at least another 5lb to even get in the race!November 6, 2008 at 04:13 #188241Had a little touch on Alberta’s Run at 33’s for the RSA before the Reynoldstown last year. When I heard Freddie Williams was going worst price in the ring I knew I was in with a chance!
WOrst AP bet…Teofilo for the 2,000 Guineas…
November 6, 2008 at 04:16 #188242I know a lad who did the Black Jack Ketchum for 3 World Hurdles bet.

You’ll have to remind us of how Maljimar struggled to beat Burntoak Boy ~ you know that "11l" is shorthand for eleven lengths, don’t you?
Maljimar is in little danger of failing to make the cut by the way as a lot of the topweights are doubtful runners.
November 6, 2008 at 04:17 #188244Dubai, and i thought i did well getting 20/1 Albertas (future Gold Cup winner} Run for the R.S.A.
November 6, 2008 at 04:33 #188249Rory, Burntoakboy has won 1 chase in his 54 run career, he was rated 122
at Cheltenham the day Maljimar beat him by 11l is that Eleven length in shorthand? you learn something new every day! Paddy Power winners would beat Burntoakboy by a distance! Thats 25l and over in shorthand!November 6, 2008 at 07:15 #188270AnonymousInactive- Total Posts 17716
I’m afraid to say I think we have Fists protege on our hands in GWILSON77
By the way, I think you’ll find a distance is anything over 30 lengths.
November 6, 2008 at 08:30 #188271People are responding to the guys post. Who cares what you think?
And why do you have to bring my name into it?
Give it a rest FFs………..I am sick to death of would be knowitalls having a go……is it because I am so successful that you are acting like a bunch of babies because you aint getting any?
within a couple of weeks I have had a great 7/2 double up which I advised on here that everyone should get stuck in………I had the most successful punt of my life when I had bundles on Zarkava at 7/1 when you lot were having digs at me saying she wasn’t good enough…….then came the big one in the states…..what did I bet? Raven’s Pass..I’m very sorry I am successful at punting and it bugs you…..but I honestly don’t care what you think.
This forum is for every kind of discussion as long as it is about racing…….betting always has and always will be the number one subject.
About 80% of punters get into racing because they want to win money.they are called gamblers. Maybe you’ve heard of them.
So grow up and leave Mr Wilson alone he has every right to start this thread but you have no right to start slagging me or any other member.
November 6, 2008 at 08:56 #188272Sorry I should add my worst AP was probably Ekbalco for the simple reason I had just seen Gay Brief win at Nottingham and was about to back him at around 12/1. I was staying with my late friend Tony Charlton and I can remeber him saying "You’re really sweet on horse aren’t you"? "I don’t want to put you off but Jonjo thinks Ekbalco is a near good thing". I took 7/2 Ekbalco with Hills and the rest is rock’n roll
Another horse I bet off the boards was Gembridge Jupiter he had finished second to another horse Tony had just won on belonging to Marten Julian called Cloudwalker who was a real good sort. John Suthern called Tony and said he thought he was a good thing for a race at Donnie as he had improved out of all recognition between races. I lumped on the horse like money had gone out of fashion then drove all the way to Donnie from the norh of Scotland and lumped on again.
GJ was cantering turning for home and burst a blood vessell and lost the lot. I think if memory serves me well, the next season he won almost every race he ran in.. Talk about rubbing salt in the wound.
I stopped on the way back home for some fish and chips, put my hand in my pocket and never had a coin It got worse as I made an excuse my wallet was in the car and drove off without me food……..half way up the road I ran out of petrol, left my car and had to hitch home and go back for it the next day.
All part of racing/punting and easy to laugh about it now.
November 6, 2008 at 13:15 #188293back in the dark ages when i didnt have to worry about kids, bills and mortgages and was earning the princely sum of £33 pw, i was convinced shirley heights would win the derby, so every week i put all the wages on for the 2 months prior to the derby, the shortest price i got was 12/1.
inkerman [lester] was favourite and hawaain sound [shoemaker] was next best.
my parents let me off the housekeeping money for a % of winnings and on the day i asked the boardman in ladbrokes if i could keep the boardsheet as a memento, still got it in the attic somewhere.
also plunged on him in the irish derby, god bless greville.November 6, 2008 at 13:46 #188299Best: 14-1 Lady Carla for the Oaks when I was 15 (started 100-30).
Worst: too many to mention!
P.S. Hilarious rant by Fist.
Fist – do you not think it’s a bit undignified to boast about your financial successes? You’ll be telling us all how much you earn next. We only have your word for the success or otherwise of your punting in any case….
