They rattled on about it, putting up captions about Alderbrook being the last entire and all sorts so I may write a letter of complaint!!!
Dave, how can you say he’s next years Newmill?!?!?!? Beforehand this was the best CH in years, two former champs, the new white hope, plus a supporting cast of potentially talented youngsters.. None of the top horse were missing bar Macs Joy.. I think he’s just a very good horse
March 20, 2007 at 17:42 #47849before last years queen mother kauto star was the new kid on the block, and moscow flyer was the old guard but had lost his class. (like HE and BI) kauto star fell at the 2nd fence, so the race went to newmill, in impressive style, and like this years champion, there were fallers and horses pulled up who didnt run thier races, like straw bear, Iktitaf and Detroit city in this years champion!
Sublimity deserved to win this year because he was the best horse on the day, as was newmill in last years champion chase, but i cant see sublimity winning it next year. but i might be proved wrong!

Dave, Moscow was 12 and already in decline, Brave INca and Hardy have pretty much farmed the races they ran in Ireland this year. To say they were in decline is complete tosh. I can’t be bothered to look but i’d be willing to bet you gave them a big chance beforehand.
As for the others, Detroit just wasn;t good enough, Iktitaf, fair enough, but if you watch the race again sublimity was about to go past him when he fell and it is now obvious that Straw Bear was not going to win this race on his form.
This years CH was a superior race to last years champion chase.. I don’t think many people would argue with that.

To be fair to Straw Bear, he needs soft ground or worse to show his best – his Top Novice win was on sft, (though officially g/s); his Fighting Fifth on heavy, (officially g/s) – and was always going to struggle in his biggest test yet on better ground, (though officially soft).
Maybe someone should start a campaign for the RP form to show the ground as it was, rather than what the officials felt convenient to call it on the day? ÂÂÂ
March 21, 2007 at 15:15 #47853Yeah but he was never going to win this… McCoy made that pretty clear.
They said the ground was g/s at the fighting fifth?!?! I was about 200 miles away watching on tv and I could have told them that was wrong!
March 21, 2007 at 15:50 #47854Didn’t straw bear break a blood vessel thereby deeming any debate over ground/winning the CH irrelevant?
March 21, 2007 at 15:59 #47855Yep. He still wouldn’t have won though.
