Sorry guys a fortnight out there. I am following Sublimity over the proverbial cliff, I know that. I think he can win this race and I’ll be backing him on course as he is drifting currently. I accept the opinions of others and look forward to the post race discussion on here.
March 11, 2008 at 20:00 #149875Only managed to watch the reply but the first thing I noticed was how much worse Sublimity’s hurdling was. He is normally a really fluent hurdler but he made several mistakes this time as well as pulling quite hard early on.
My paddock watchers advised he didn’t impress in his appearance so I let him run unbacked but I’d be interested in him if he appears at Aintree
March 11, 2008 at 20:25 #149886Tuffers there’s a big differnece of opinion here my friend who has been round horses longer than me saw Sublimity yesterday. He said he looked absolutely fanatstic. So someone has it wrong but that is neither here nor there.
He’s done everything right and come there spot on with every chance and the only thing he did wrong is do exactly what I said he would do but none of his supporters would listen to.
Quote from one of my posts:
"As crazy as it may sound "H" I don’t think he truly gets the trip and think he will struggle to be in the first 3. He looked like a non stayer behind Straw Bear to me and again last year was a bit disappointing when he ran on very one paced after talking the lead….he just never put any distance between himslef and two very tired horses and Afsoun looked to be finishing better tha he was.
I know he was a younger horse when he ran behind Noland but he actually looked a huge threat until he hit that rising ground then nothing"
It stuck out like a sore thumb for anyone to see and I must have said it twenty times if I said it once. If your talking about him winning the Aintree Hurdle over 2m 4f I would think that would be hardly unlikely. There a couple of good races at Fairyhouse and Puchestown that John Quin was taking about for blythe Knight surely there’s more chance of him going there…….I would fancy his chances my self on an easy track like Aintree but is there a two miler he could run in there?.
March 11, 2008 at 20:30 #149887Fist, he win in a time of 3.55 last year. Katchit won today in 4.08. I don’t think it was anything to do with not staying. I think he wasn’t at his best after an interrupted preparation and it was only his flat speed that kept him in it in a slowly run race.
March 11, 2008 at 20:37 #149888i think its a simple case of not staying the trip at cheltenham.
was evident in the bula, and evident today. to me at least.

Look at the first four home. IMHO they were all speed horses. The stayers didn’t get a look in. It was a slowly run race (slower than the Supreme Novices FFS) and track position and flat speed won the day.
March 11, 2008 at 20:50 #149894I think his hurdling was awful today. Wasnt fluent and hit plenty. With a better round of hurdling and a good jump at the last then things could have been oh so different. He stays and was in good shape I think. Just his hurdling let him down today.
Still it is the champion hurdling and he who hits his hurdles or doesent jump them fast is not going to win.
I couldnt have backed Katchit with counterfeit beforehand but hats off to him for outbattling them all.
March 11, 2008 at 20:51 #149895i’d say look at the first 3 home – ALL NOVICES LAST YEAR, meaning last years champion crop weren’t as good as you thought or the ex-novices have improved past them.

I’d say the younger horses tend to have more speed – the reason that Champion Hurdlers tend to be older is that you normally need a high cruising speed, fluent hurdling ability and stamina at the finish
March 11, 2008 at 22:25 #149928My suspicion is that Sublimity would have stripped fitter and performed to a higher level with another run or two under it’s belt.
March 11, 2008 at 23:53 #149963He travelled like the best horse in the race but couldn’t go on when hitting the front having pulled far too hard early. A recent outing would have won him the race for me.
March 12, 2008 at 00:07 #149974Overrated lump that doesnt stay. No chance in a truely run race…fit or not
March 12, 2008 at 06:07 #150006Can’t believe it Clive staring people right in the face and they still can’t see it……….no wonder the bookies aways win
March 12, 2008 at 08:22 #150021And the fat pig still beat Harchibald and Sizing Europe home (though the former was given an abismal ride).
March 12, 2008 at 10:32 #150115Sublimity didn’t stay ? No, Sublimity simply wasn’t fit enough or good enough on the day. He ran a helluva race for a horse that was supposedly inferior to the new, so -called superstar of hurdling – the over-hyped Sizing Europe (who went out like a light) and that perennial "twicer", Harchibald.

As for Katchit; he reminds me in many ways of the great Monksfield. He has the same battling qualities and clearly loves Cheltenham. I for one, underestimated him. I won’t make the same mistake twice.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
March 12, 2008 at 11:01 #150132Sublimity definitely suffered through not being given a prep as his jumping was really sloppy, but has no one noticed that this years Champ Hurdle was about 15 secs slower than last years on supposedly better ground.
The running of the race IMO was a bit of a farce because Osana looked to be going no clip in front, after his lead was established and everyone was hanging way off him, some of the major players were so far back that they were never going to get in to it.
That takes nothing away from Katchits win as the race was set up for osana and katchit not only had to catch him but had to hold him off and it was very good performance from the little horse and an excellent peformance from Thornton. And also a huge amount of credit to Punjabi who managed to get right up from the rear for third place, which under the racing running was possibly the worst place to be.
I personally wouldnt be of the opinion that it was a great champion hurdle and looking at the strength of the supreme novice and the potential for a good triumph hurdle I think that the transition in the grade 1 2 mile division of this season will continue into next season.
March 12, 2008 at 11:06 #150137The time was over 12 seconds slower this year than last, and for me it was a case of the horse simply not getting home in the conditions. Would be nice to see plenty of the principals again at Punchestown as I think better ground could see a different result.
Take nothing away from Katchit though who showed he is one of the very best 2-mile hurdlers this year and confirmed without doubt he’s definitely the toughest.
