Further to an earlier post – we’re going to put up a new section on the forum for greyhound racing.
While looking at that I think it might be time to trim back one or two other sections as the list is getting long and a few areas attract very few posts/views.
‘Bloodstock and sales’ could be a candidate for the chop, as could the Poker section.
I’m planning to Archive the 2009 TRF Awards section and ‘Memorials’ is another ‘slow’ area. Perhaps we could simply have a ‘Memorials’ thread in the Horse Racing section?
What do you think folks? Anything else to go? Anything else you’d like to see?
April 6, 2010 at 10:02 #287851I would definitely be in favour of keeping Memorials. Its a unique feature of the site, even if its one of the quieter sections.
April 6, 2010 at 10:14 #287855The quieter the better with that particular section.

April 6, 2010 at 10:19 #287856I like bloodstock & sales.
April 6, 2010 at 10:22 #287857Perhaps a Section devoted to racecourses with a thread for each one and where posters could provide information on their particular experiences of getting there, accomodation, refreshments, viewing, do’s and dont’s etc.
April 6, 2010 at 10:28 #287860Get rid of Big Race Section and Cheltenham section. Anything under those topics would be fine on the main board and would only drop off when everyone deems the discussions on there no longer worthy of interest. This place has gone downhill since they were introduced.
April 6, 2010 at 10:33 #287862I disagree DJ.
I only joined this forum last year and I find those two threads arto be the most interesting.
I think introducing them to the main section would be a bad idea.

With respect, thm, if you only joined the forum last year, you’d hardly be in a position to judge whether it has gone downhill since the introduction of the Big Race section (around 3 years ago).
I agree totally with DJ; I thought it a bad idea when it was introduced and felt it would take interest away from the main board. Anyone who doubts that has happened should maybe peruse the number of threads on that board where there is little or no interest.
TRF is still a good forum, though (imo) not nearly as good as it once was.April 6, 2010 at 10:57 #287873I’m in two minds over the Big Races and Cheltenham section, but I think I’d prefer them on the main board.
However, I don’t think the Cheltenham thread, should it stay, should be on here all year round, I’d go for November to April.
Awards 2009 can go (achived) along with Bloodstock and Sales and Poker.
I would include Trends and Notebooks in a new section with systems – ‘Systems, Trends, Notebooks’
We should have one new section – ‘TAPK – Words and Wisdom’
April 6, 2010 at 11:12 #287877Totally agree with DJ – I rarely look at anything other than Horse Racing. Used to be much better with the big races discussed in the main forum…

Only a click away as it stands TDK.
It would seem to some that anything Ruby Walsh has a mount in is a big race. Too many good threads in horse racing that would be pushed out of sight by a spate of would be big races.
Have to disgree and I’m all for the split remaining.
As far as the dogs go I only back 5 and 2 in a forecast when I’m bored but good luck with it.
April 6, 2010 at 11:33 #287884Yes – every site on the internet is "just a click" away though, Fist. The question is woiuld the forum get better quality contributions if the big races were discussed in the main forum?
Resounding "yes" from me….
April 6, 2010 at 11:37 #287886Bearing in mind the overriding interest of quite a few posters, if we integrated the Cheltenham section with the main forum, someone would be discussing next years Arkle before Royal Ascot. That’s just silly.
And I really like the separate Big Race Discussion thread too – there are some decent judges on there – so I would hate to see that section go.
As for TRF not being as good as it used to be, I disagree. Its friendlier now, less narcissistic, less argumentative, more organised and more pleasant than it was when I first joined.
April 6, 2010 at 11:39 #287889I liked the old way of having just one Racing section on the Forum. However I take the point that some interesting topics may drop off quickly if we have discussions on all the various big races.
Perhaps a compromise would be to have just one Big Races section which incorporated Cheltenham races?
I’d have thought Systems could go in with Trends etc.
April 6, 2010 at 11:43 #287890I always hesitate before posting this type of thread as opinion is usually divided.
I like the big race discussions having their own section for neatness and tidiness but agree with TDK in as much as I don’t go in there and look/contribute as much as I would if it were on the main ‘Horse Racing’ board.
It’s a difficult one that.
April 6, 2010 at 11:50 #287891Wouldn’t the obvious solution then be to have an "Ante Post" section where races where the 6 day decs aren’t out are discussed.
….but this week – all of Aintree would be "fair game" on the main Horse Racing board.
April 6, 2010 at 11:50 #287892I think one of the problems with integrating the Big Races and Cheltenham with the main section is that since the facelift last Autumn, these are fewer topics on each page, so topics drop off the first page quicker.
Also, one used to be able to look at one’s past posts, so it was easier to find an old topic.
What’ll happen now (if they are merged) is that you’ll more frequently get multiple threads on the same topic, because the poster didn’t realise that a thread already existed.
Merging Notebooks with Systems is a good idea.
