What on earth was SDS doing there? I think he needs to go back to jockey school to learn how to ride a ‘quiet one’ with more subtlety than that! Laughable.
Maybe he was trying to pip Bridget Andrews to Eclipse non-trier of the year for her “effort” on Langer Dan at Market Rasen.
I’m sure the mega-drift in the 10 minutes before the off from 11’s to 18’s is purely coincidental.

April 14, 2021 at 15:18 #1536374“Track didn’t suit his running style” says Lydia……….hmmmm.
April 14, 2021 at 15:22 #1536375What? He was absolutely hacking! That was pretty transparent imo, they wanted a quiet run and SDS probably got taken by surprise by the horse tanking along like that. That was hilarious tbh.
I’ll await the stewards accepting SDS’s bullshit, I mean explanation, in due course.

April 14, 2021 at 16:30 #1536397Just watched this on RTV’s site. Agree it does not look great. SDS only asks him for an effort when the race is already over.
I assume he will say the horse was not acting on the undulations and he was just keeping hold of him.
April 14, 2021 at 16:39 #1536399Richard Hoiles sounded embarrassed, and sceptical, reading the jockeys comments from the Stewards Room there on ITV. He didn’t take the gap as he wanted a later gap. Then he couldn’t go outside due to being blocked, before the long awaited gap disappeared on him. He then stayed on past a couple of tired horses. Last seasons storming-home Portland winner needs to be dropped to a minimum 5f trip………..Sounded absolutely desperate stuff.
I think he would loved to have said a bit more, and his point about it being unfortunate the full transcript being unavailable were quite telling. Fair play to him though, he was the only one to say anything.

April 14, 2021 at 16:40 #1536400Nothing to see here. Move along, move along.
April 14, 2021 at 16:43 #1536402What was your impression Botchy in all seriousness? I’ve rarely seen one more obvious at a major meeting than that, if ever.

April 14, 2021 at 20:38 #1536440It was terrible to watch. A lot worse than Fallon on Top Cees…. I’m serious, by the way.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of STONE OF DESTINY, ridden by Silvestre De Sousa and trained by Andrew Balding, which raced keen at the rear of the field throughout and appeared to stay on under apparent considerate handling, to finish ninth of eleven, beaten by 6 ¼ lengths. The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities. The rider stated his instructions were to drop in, get cover and finish in the best possible position as STONE OF DESTINY has not ran since the 19 September 2020 and has a history of racing keen. He added that it took approximately ½ a furlong to get the gelding to settle and relax on the bridle and that his plan was to wait for a clear run when approaching the dip. He further added that at approximately 2½ furlongs out, rather than take the small gap in between both STONE CIRCLE (IRE) and DAZZLING DAN (IRE), he felt the better option would be to wait for sufficient room to enable him to come with a late run but was unable to switch to his left due to the proximity of DAZZLING DAN (IRE)’s heels, who was racing just ahead of him. De Sousa stated that at approximately 1 ½ furlongs out when attempting to go for a gap, he was denied a clear run as a result of STONE CIRCLE (IRE) drifting slightly left-handed and thereafter failed to quicken, staying on one-paced to the line passing only two tired horses. He further indicated that, in his opinion, STONE OF DESTINY would appreciate being dropped back to its optimum trip of 5 furlongs in the future. His explanations were noted.
April 14, 2021 at 20:51 #1536441That’s a joke of an enquiry.
Horse drifted from 9/1 out to 18/1, was ridden like blatant non-trier and all the stewards do is ‘note’ the explanations.
April 14, 2021 at 21:01 #1536442Absolutely Wexfordman. Absolute farce. I often watch races and form an opinion, but its not often its so blatant a horse is stopped. Especially in such a high profile meeting live on terrestrial TV.
Thanks for posting that Ruby. Predictable, of course the Baldings are well and truly in the gang.

April 14, 2021 at 21:10 #1536443Sadly it happens all to often. Nothing will change. We will moan but the Stewards will do nothing and at the end of the day we either stop gambling or just accept it.
A shocking ride though.April 14, 2021 at 21:21 #1536444I just watched the replay….I have no words.

April 14, 2021 at 21:27 #1536446Apparently it is easier to fine and ban connections of a 100-1 shot that comes 6th at Plumpton or Fontwell rather than bother with the Big Boys at a prestigious Flat meeting.
April 14, 2021 at 21:30 #1536447I was thinking along very similar lines Ruby.

April 14, 2021 at 21:34 #1536448Why was he taking such a fierce hold 2 lengths behind the back marker, he made no attempt to switch to the outside as soon as it got tight between stone circle and dazzling Dan.It was a big drift before the off however looked very fit and ready pre race. Gave the horse absolutely no chance
April 14, 2021 at 23:31 #1536478No mention of the enquiry anywhere in the racing media as far as I can see. Anyone would be forgiven for thinking they do not want to upset the Racing Establishment to their finger tips Baldings.
