Port with salmon sandwiches? I appreciate most stewards are clueless but didn’t realise things were that bad!
Are we suggesting if Mr Small Trainer had pulled a similar stunt at Southwell, then the stewards might have done more than just note the explanation? How could anyone think such a thing?
I’n no fan of Francesca Cumani as a broadcaster, but she said it was a “bizarre ride” on ITV yesterday. Fair play to her.

Cymro – I missed that to be honest. Richard Hoiles sounded incredulous, in his polite fashion, but I didn’t hear Cumani say that. Fair play to her. I kept thinking how much I missed Big Mac. Love or loath, he would have called that shambles out.

TTC – maybe I’m reading too much in to it but it seemed to me that for Hoiles to be able to bring it up again at the end of the broadcast – having made a few in-race comments live – it had to be done as his “eyecatcher” feature. As you say, he was still being polite but I almost felt as if he had to be a little guarded in what he said, either from his own mind or by ITV. I got the impression Hoiles would have liked to said much more. And he did say “I think backers of Stone of Destiny have the right to hear an explanation” when the Stewards Enquiry was announced.

Finished second today at Goodwood. Just as well – it would not have looked great if he had won.
