Surprising that this has not had a thread but perhaps it shows that impossible handicaps are not profitable.

Borderlescott makes his 4th appearance in the race having finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd on his previous tries. He has also managed to finish 4th and 1st in the King George Stakes at the meeting while he won around within a week of this date at 2 and 3 years of age.

Just how much ability he retains is open to question but he will give his best tomorrow and I would love to see him win, sentimental fool that I am.

I backed "Scotty" when he won the race in 2006 and would love to see him run well. Not the force he was but handicap company may prove more suitable. His trainer used to maintain that his stable star came good at this time of year and his course form will be a help. My biggest worry would be that all his wins since this race six years ago have come at five furlongs.

My two against the field are Hawkeyethenoo and Alben Star who are both 12/1. Jamesie, Dungannon and Victoire De Lyphar all look short enough in the betting to me but it is not a race to have confidence in either way.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

My two arrows are Seal Rock, on same Mark as his close second over C&D last year, and Oasis Dancer, who was formerly decent and has dropped a lot in the handicap in recent times.

Really like Victoire for this – very well in now he is back to form.

Chuffed to bits to see Graham Lee win. Only better result would have been Borderlescott in the winners enclosure.

Well in Steve. Hope you weren’t too ‘cautious’!

Thanks. Just small stakes on these type of races. Nice to get a good winner though.

Amazing to see Waffle go off 7/1 favourite today. His ONLY win was over four years ago in a £2500 Leicester maiden where he was 4/5 favourite. You really have to wonder about some people’s concept of value.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Whilst I agree with you, the horse has run consistently well in these top handicap sprints for the last 18 months or so, hitting the cross bar on 3 or 4 occasions, so maybe that’s why there was some confidence behind him.

Hawkeyethenoo finally comes good after a few decent runs so far this season, a great ride from Lee. Will be right up there in the next one (York?) I feel.

I know what you mean but if we accept that he is not a horse that wins very much, then you are really looking at place odds. I don’t mind that at say 16/1 or 20/1 but at 7/4 for the place you are actually betting around 4/11 your stake money with £2.75 back for a £1 ew bet
In 27 runner handicaps that is a quick road to the poorhouse. I would rather pick two and bet win only, as I did today. Each to their own though, all strategies are good when you hit the right horse!!

True, was pretty poor value SP, luckily I grabbed the 14/1 earlier in the day and did each way so got a return at least! I ended up backing about 5 or 6, which I know is pretty stupid, but made it worth the while as I included Hawkeye as well at 11/1…
