After the way he jumped yesterday, what chance Ahoy Senor runs here?

I am starting to think Ahoy Senor is a “soft” horse mentally who needs things his own way.

A flat left-handed track and an uncontested lead – he’d get neither at Cheltenham.

I don’t subscribe to the view he’s got a lot of scope either.

And the fact he only made £50,000 after winning his Point by half the track (I’ve seen winners of such UK contests go for four times as much) suggests I’m not alone in this view.

I hope they do not run Ahoy Senor in the Gold Cup. If they insist on running at Cheltenham, I think he would have more chance in this race.

If he was mine, the 3 mile Grade 1 Chase at Aintree on the Thursday would be his main target and he would not be going anywhere near Cheltenham.

Despite yesterday’s lapse there, Wetherby remains his type of track.

He’s simply not quite top class – his OR of 161 is as good as he is and IMO as good as he will ever be.

The Hennessy as was, Rowland Meyrick, the Great Yorkshire as was, the Peter Marsh and even the Scottish National might be targets, but he’s been campaigned like a Cheltenham Gold Cup contender and consequently he’s just not well handicapped.

I think he’d need to drop to circa 154 to win off his mark.

Aintree suits him too, he’s won twice there, but I’m just not sure he’s good enough to win the race you mention.

Being headed early yesterday lit him up , after jumping the first three fine he lapsed into his usual sloppy round of jumps , to be fair he ran poorly first time out in the Colin Parker last year but Ian might be right , he might just be soft and sulky , def not a GC horse at this point , here,s a thought …..henessey ….

A soft and sulky horse surely has no chance in a hennesey though

He’d really struggle in a big field handicap imo, loads of horses around him not getting a clear sight of his fences

    Langer Dan 33/1

With champ and paisley park another year older, thyme Hill going chasing and roksana retired the staying hurdle division in Britain is extremely weak

The big 3 mile staying hurdles are therefore open to an improver

Hoping that this will be Langer Dan and if it is he has considerable scope for shortening in price

Some may say he’s rated 145 and has no chance

But Paisley Park was rated 140 at the start of the season won

    Lisnagar Oscar 141

    Flooring Porter 131

    So stranger things have happened

Worth a small punt at 33s on a horse I’m fond of imo and after all he did get within a couple of lengths of galopin des champs who had 25lbs in hand in the pipe

Big bad Bob needs to massacre Flooring Porter getting 9lb at 2m4f tomorrow.

If he gets beat, my 10/1 ante-post about him for the Stayers’ is going to look about as good an investment as those 10,000 “Liz Truss, PM 2022-2025” t shirts I had printed in September.

I’m hoping it’ll be a performance reminiscent of his Cheltenham romp, and I don’t mean the one last year!!

Bob Olinger 16s, added him for now. Beat Flooring Porter the rough distance he was meant to, travelled well, but didnt win. Did he just blow up in the closing stages? We will find out next race.

16s seems fair enough but the winner is exposed enough to make you question the form , flooring would have enjoyed his blow out , we didn’t really learn anything

Agree Mike. Very satisfied with that run. Confident Cromwell will have him absolutely spot on at Cheltenham.
