Read my post again Ricky.
As I said at the start, “Omicron is already here but currently only in a relatively small amount”.

It is not yet widespread and so new we haven’t had one death from Omicron yet.

Omicron will be widespread in time but the HORSE HAS NOT BOLTED YET – as I also said – “Hospitals are always at their busiest in Winter – don’t want hospitals full up… And we don’t want Christmas to be cancelled either. So the more we can do to slow Omicron down without buggering up the economy too much the better”.

ie It’s about slowing Omicron down so there’s a better chance of getting both Christmas and hopefully Winter over with before it’s at peak without buggering up the economy too much. Indeed if we can keep it low until the end of Winter the peak / number of deaths may remain lower.
