I’ve taken 16/1 Tower Of London for this.

He absolutely bolted in off 99 in the Ulster Derby yesterday, he’s a full brother to Leger winner Capri and the stable representative said the hope is he will develop into a Leger horse.

It’s a yard with options in the race as always but he looks the part to me and I just think Gregory is very short as he’s yet to do anything I can rate higher than his OR of 110.

“I’ve taken 16/1 Tower Of London for this.”

Can’t beat 14/1 now, that’s in isolated places, generally 12s and as short as 10/1.

Good shout ID. I have taken the 14/1 with Ladbrokes.

Even when you take the rider’s 7lb claim into account, he absolutely bolted up and looked as if an extra two furlongs would have suited him even better.

I hope he wins. It would be good to see an Ulster Derby winner go on to win a Classic.

Apparently he was 25/1 immediately after he won, CAS, but I had taken my eye off the ball (I was focussed on Royal Ascot) and by the time I got round to looking at the Ulster Derby result 16s was the best left.

To use a well-worn cliche, he “ticks boxes” as a Leger prospect.

Yes, 25/1 would have been very nice!

It is a pity the Ulster Derby gets a bit lost amongst the Royal Ascot coverage. I went to the meeting in 2010 and recommended it. Back then, they were messing around with the conditions of the race and it was an all aged handicap. At least it has gone back to just being for 3 year olds.

His jockey was interviewed on RTV and seemed confident the horse would stay further. I did not realise it was his first winner for three years. He is an intelligent fellow – he has just completed a degree in mechanical engineering.

Tower Of London won a handicap off 92 yesterday with the claim. Before that won a winnable listed race. Has to improve a fair bit to win this unless the race cuts up. And appreciates decent ground too which he might not get in this.

That’s the end of that, then – Mike doesn’t fancy it.

The ground should be OK in September.

I suspect Tower Of London is a lot better than a 92 performer.

This race might not take much winning. I think he is certain to line up here and will have a good chance.

I hope the same connections run Savethelastdance but they may have other plans for her.

Joking aside, you can get soft ground in the Leger – Sun Princess – but they don’t call it “sunny Donny” for nothing and more often than not Town Moor is basking in Indian summer sunshine on Leger Day.

Apprentices claim for a reason so I’m not having him having won off 92 there – it was 99.

    And he hosed up.

His revised mark will be more like 110, same as the Leger favourite Gregory.

I’d rather have Gregory over Tower Of London at this stage on good ground if TOL ends up on 110 as well after winning a weak looking listed race and a winnable handicap with the claim. As a win only punt I have a feeling there will be at least one that might be too good that’s been running in better races and comes here. I don’t think the Ulster Derby has been a rich source of St Leger winners either. Of course he may step up again in a prep race against better opposition so we will see.

Interesting that Alexandropoulis still as Irish derby and St leger enteries but no Irish St leger entry beaten odds on fav behind White Birch in April not run since at 20/1 could be worth taking a look if does go for Irish derby

I do a lot of work on trial race stats for big races, here my trial race stats for the St Leger, ordered by the number of horses who ran in the trial race and then went on to run in the next St Leger.

    A Ledger on the Leger!

    Brilliant!

Many thanks for these IMO really interesting numbers.

Cashed out King Of Steel, they are talking about 10f races rather than going this far.

    I knew this was coming.

I think you’re a decent judge, it’s not a question of that, but I cannot get my head around how they can even let you do that, Mike?

I’m on White Birch too for this, but they absolutely won’t let me do that, even at a loss.

Please name the firms who let you cash out after your horse just got hammered.
