Monitor Closely went into a lot of people notebooks as a horse that might do better over a trip, after finishing well in the Guineas.

He did that and more when shocked everyone including his trainer when winning the Great Voltiguer.

Now they are faced with the problem do we run him or not.

They seem to think his best trip would be 1m2f having ran him 3 times over the distance and there lies the first problem. Although the GV is over 1m4f the ground was so fast 2 track records were broken on the same day.

What happens if it comes up g/soft or worse? Unless the trainer is amile of the mark I doubt if the horse will get the trip.

Then you have the value of the form. None of those fancied ran any kind of race and the 3nd at best looks a bit of a one paced stayer. Races like that seldom stand up and very often the form isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. Had Harbinger or Alwaary finished a close 2nd then it woud be a different story

So little wonder PCH is wondering whether it is worth supplementing him or not. 45k’s doesn’t grow on trees and if they get bad weather it could be money down the drain.

Apparantly they will make their minds up tomorrow and no doubt they will weigh up the quality of the opposition versus the above….Good luck to them if they go but it’s not a case of let’s enter and the prize is ours by any stretch of the imagination..

Seems like everyone is down to talking shyte here so I’ll join in.
Age of Auarius win a classic? not in my life time he wont. Big useless piece of lard shoud be 50/1 win only

You certainly would be if i didn"t know better! I personally rate

    Age of Aquarius

as one of the biggest certaintys of the year to win the Leger!

I know that and that’s why I said he was useless…….just love winding you up

He’s a nice horse but far from being a certainty but then nothing could be regarded as such among this lot.

The Group 1 he finished 2nd in is one of, if not the worst Group 1 I’ve seen this season. They all finished in a heap behind him and that doesn’t speak volumes for the form. Strictly on the book it leaves hima bit to find with Monitor Closely who may or may not run.

On the plus side he was under pressure from 4 furlongs out and ran on well. He even managed to put a couple of lengths between him and the 3rd in the final furlong after Cavalryman eased passed him. I’m not even sure if he was going forward or Mastery who is onepaced at best had enough ad was backpeddling. However the biggest plus is he should get the trip.

He ran better in France than he did in the Derby but his Lingfield sh hd win over Montaff reads shockingly badly for a horse who is near fav for a classic.

It may well be he has been laid out for the St Leger but why send him all the way to France if they didn’t think he was spot on and ready to win. I think that was the big test or him and he simply isn’t that good. He’ll be fighting all the way up the Donnie straight but I would be very confident that Mourayan has the toe to catch him and will oustay him hands down.

Whether something else has he toe to turn this St Leger into a race where speed is a factor I very much doubt. Kite Wood possibly? but then if Age of Aquarius goes rattling off up front, KW could easily be found wanting at the end of what I imagine will turn into a real slog.

I like Age of Aquarius and have backed him at a reasonable price. A concern is that he has tended to some back underneath Johnny each time he has come under pressure this season. He can be forgiven Lingfield but did the same at Longchamp although he did knuckle down towards the finish in France. I would tend to give him the benefit of the doubt (even at 3’s) and put it down to greeness rather than unwillingness.
He travelled beautifully in the Longchamp race and it looked set fair until the pacemaker died halfway up the half straight and it ended up being a sprint.
He worked after racing the last day at the Curragh with Moon Indigo and seemed to go very well although his work companion is a slow horse.
Interestingly, Johnny rode him that day while Heffernan rode Yeats in a separate piece of work which raises hopes that Johnny may go to Doncaster although if Moore is free there is an obvious alternative.

It will be interesting to see what the reactions of the bookmakers is today if Urban Poet wins the listed race at Goodwood today.

It’s sure to be a true test of stamina with Free Agent in the race and if Urban Poet were to win very impressively it would at least tell us he’s guaranteed to get the Leger trip.

The bookies of course would slash his price to the bone and Franke could be telling us he’ll make his mind up nearer the time which one he rides.

The race/market may be a bit of a mess at the moment but it could be worse after today

:o I’ve just realised that Mourayan is a cracking each way bet.

He’s been running in top races behind Fame And Glory and Profound Beauty. The step up in trip should suit him down to the ground. As I have said before, this is a pretty septic race. It wouldn’t take much improvement to finish in the first 3.

This has been an excellent wake up call for me. I never fully appreciated just how appallingly dreadful the Leger has become but this has done it for me and then some.

Well if the bad run still hadn’t convinced you, Frankie Dettori has labelled Urban Poet not very good.

Changingoftheguard I was once keen on until Traffic Guards rampant win at Windsor destroying Warringah, so Ebor form is shaky already even though he was kind of unlucky.

Age Of Aquarius, he hardly beat Father Time and I thought he was disappointing not to win the Grand Prix De Paris, Fabre says Cavalary Man will go on to big things but I don’t think so.

Kite Wood, even though he hasn’t beat much he for me holds strong credentials, would be amazed if he doesn’t place, but no each way value on him at 5/2 although I think he should be shorter on the field.

Monitor Closely however did run a very good Leger trial, with Jukebox Jury boosting his form in France over 1m4.5f, aginst the likes of Kasbah Bliss today, 8’s with a run for him is surely great value with connections likely to run him it seems, breeding isn’t the best by far but then they doubted this side ay York.

    Monitor Closely for me.

Warning bells are ringing at camp Godolphin if this firm ground holds up on Saturday.

I think this becomes Changingoftheguard’s race to lose.

Monitor Closely win is questionable form with Harbinger and Alwhatsitsname running badly but on good gound he would still hold a great chance in this field. I’m surprised to hear Oxx is hoping for good ground for Mourayan as I thought the bigger the slog the bigger the chance but he has been crying out for a trip.

Still have asneaky feeling he;s the one but with Golden Sword (2nd in the Irish) running so badly the form doesn’t seem up to much now.

I wouldn’t say it’s a bad race but If AOB runs Rockhamton to set the pace this lot might not catch him

I’ve given the race thought and come down on the side of Father Time. There are question marks over the entire field, its quite an open looking race. However, the ground looks like it wont be soft and I fancy many of these are a touch one paced…with the exception of Father Time.

Kite Wood has looked like a soft ground slugger to me, Changingoftheguard was caught flat footed when they quickened in the Ebor and Monitor Closely was handed an easy lead in the Voltigeur.

Father Time showed good acceleration at Ascot and for me that can just swing it his way. The booking of Spencer is a positive on a horse that will need settling and want to come from behind.
