February 6, 2010 at 17:08 #274449Can’t see anything in the field that will interupt Pittoni’s journey to Triumph Hurdle victory!
February 6, 2010 at 20:29 #274515I have gone with Shanrod. Showed nothing on the Flat but was quite impressive first time. Should handle the ground and the booking of Walsh is a positive. Not so sure about the booking of Russell for Pittoni.
February 6, 2010 at 23:28 #274569Weak race…..Ireland’s main hopes are Secant Star/Alavain and Carlo Brigante.
Pittoni would enter that equation if he hacked up tomoro but i nt sure he will
February 6, 2010 at 23:41 #274573Make no mistake, this fella is special
February 7, 2010 at 17:28 #274711BOOM
February 7, 2010 at 17:40 #274714Good performance by Pittoni on very bad ground.
Wouldn’t be far away in the Triumph….Better ground is only going to improve him.

Odds-on, in a poor race and not at all impressive.
February 7, 2010 at 18:18 #274730Yes, it was a poor race, and he won as you would expect a 4/6 shot to. But he won snug as a gun and won’t be far away in the Triumph.
February 8, 2010 at 17:46 #274945Why has this race been given G1 status? Has had little bearing on the Triumph or Punchestown race in recent years, and yesterday’s field was no better than a decent novice/winners of two.

I presume the race was made a Grade 1 because the 3yo race on St Stephens Day at Leopardstown was a Grade 2 contest in 2009 having been a Grade 1 in 2008.
Not sure why they’ve switched around though – possibly thinking there’ll be one or two better juveniles out at this time of the year than at Christmas?
February 8, 2010 at 20:17 #274995I have Pittoni at 25s for the Triumph and was happy enough with the run. Pace was so farcical though that it’s hard to read much into it. Was a 4f sprint and he was quickest, that’s all we can say.
