Thanks Moehat. Having been at the receiving end of a hind kick that lifted me off the floor, doubled up in agony, unable to breathe, screaming my head off and then scared stiiff as a dozen other horses encircled me, probably curious to know what the fuss was all about, I have the utmost admiration for stall handlers who risk their lives day in, day out.
Ken
p.s. I still have the trace of the hoof on my abdomen, about an inch from my heart.May 3, 2009 at 21:11 #225390The ban is harsh but if that is the rules then you have to accept it. Could it be that its in races of few runners that Spanish Moon does it? Not sure of his previous misdemeanors but fact there were only 3 other horses with hi instead of 16 in Dubai might be a factor. Not enough horses to make him follow the pack mentality? I doubt it but might be possible.
May 4, 2009 at 01:16 #225470He has two option, I run in europe, ireland or the continent. Or Lord Grimthorpe will have too call Roberto Frankel and tell him too exspect another Euro nutter in his santa anita barn soon…
It was a four runner feld, god knows why they didnt gie him anothe go is beyond me..
May 4, 2009 at 01:17 #225471Foreleg, Ken; I was stood next to this guy who was stroking a mare who was a bit mental anyway, but she was being really soppy [she was like that, a Jekyll and Hyde type] and he was stroking her head and with no warning whatsoever she kicked forward. I’ve heard people say if they kick back you’re in trouble, if they kick forward you’re history.
I was always warned to get out of the way pronto if they started kicking froward, having been told it was a lot worse than a hind leg kick. If you can get out of the way of course. If you are in a stable, pity help you.
May 5, 2009 at 16:50 #225783Amazing to get halfway through the second page of this thread without finding a single post suggesting that perhaps the trainer might be expected to have sorted out this problem by now.
It is his job to teach the horse to go into the stalls, not keep sending it to the racecourse and hoping for the best.
And what has the ‘racing manager’ been doing – shouldn’t he have known the risk of a 6 month ban in advance, rather than whingeing about it afterwards.
If the horse is difficult at home, why hasn’t he recommended a change of stable? And wasn’t it a risk running a Newmarket horse on the Rowley Mile close to home if it plays up on the gallops – better to keep it for Chester or York?I think these are more pertinent questions than debating the methods permitted for entering the stalls or arguing for another chance for a horse that had already delayed the start by eight minutes.

a) He’d had enough chances and clearly was not going to co-operate
b) also the favourite was also being a right sod at the start and was in danger of blowing over in the stalls. So would it have been fair to favourite backers had they had another go and the favourite then blew up.
