C R,
I made no comment about profitability one way or the other?
I’m just pointing out that there is no link between show prices and SP. The show is provided solely by SIS staff, the SP process includes other people – and the two groups are using prices from different subsets of the available on course bookmakers.
Add in the fact that ‘final’ show can only reflect prices on display around one minute before the off given the time it takes to get the data from course to website, then it’s a surprise that they are so often the same.

Going by my figures then the on course show a minute before the off is usually the returned SP but as you’ve pointed out that may not always be the case which is what I wanted know initially.
I’d still be very interested to know exactly how SP’s are compiled. Of everyhthing I’ve ever read on racing I’ve never found much available on the subject.
February 7, 2007 at 12:12 #28529
I’m sure if you do a search in the online Racing Post cuttings library you’ll find the article from late last year that provided full detail on the current method.

February 7, 2007 at 13:12 #28531Surely what suits the bookies is the new SP.
This is not very accurate but…………
This was changed last year. I`m no expert on it but it is controlled by a small sample of on course bookies.
(The all weather market with very few on course players is very weak.)
Which means it can be easily manipulated. Lots of decent odds are being slashed on first shows affecting each way players and of course the sps are shortening at the off. (allegedly.)
It was well documented in the Racing Post to their credit. (which I was buying most days last year;) )
Barry Dennis said on here other week, that Big Mac had started banging on about the SP`s after Dennis had shot him down in flames on another matter.
I`m suprised that you are not aware of this (or the gist of it) if you are earning money from it Cav.
I`m sure the experts on here can tell us whats what, but basically Little Red Riding Hood`s Granny is running the sweet shop. …
