Stand Staunch
Win.
1250.
Wetheby
Gets a handy weight pull from
Kayfast Warrior here who looked tired and wandered when winning here last time. Kayfast Warrior will come on for the run but the penalty may well prove too much in this mud.
Good hurdling experience from Ireland
Brought down on debut in the summer before
9 lengths second to Willie Mullin’s Feigh before a staying on fourth last time behind Inca Prince.

And take added insurance win w/o kayfast Warrior.
There is an excellent summary and preview of the race in the juvenile hurdles thread on the main forum.January 7, 2022 at 15:11 #1576904Money left in the satchel with too much taken on bare form.
Weights won the day.
Bonus selection comes in the 3.30 bumper at the same meeting where
CEOLWULF

Impressed with style of running in a Newcastle bumper last time out.
Took the widest route and seen to good effect finishing strongly in the home straight to take second.
Looked in control throughout and possibly good enough to win going away if able to handle the conditions. Lots of good runners here and this one unlikely to go off as favourite.

Look to be the two best runners of the day and although did not win on bow Ac showed a great attitude in a driving finish last time. This maiden hurdle looks winnable and the testing ground is the only concern.
Constitution Hill is the talking horse of the weekend and it is a concern that the RP have him on their front page.Win singles win double

Win @ 6/4
Without
Jpr one.
Jpr one has obvious claims here but Paul Nicholls introduces an exciting runner to the ranks who ultimately has a future over larger obstacles.
Unbeaten winner of a point to point in autumn 2020 won in good style and has a 400 days off to overcome.
But reports of impressive work abound ran upsides of GENTLEMENS GAME in a schooling bumper at the Curragh (before that one went for 250k and won on debut under Racheal Blackmore in Ireland.) Many lengths clear of the rest in the schooling run
This 120 k purchase looks to have a big future and Nicholls has had plenty of time to work on this horse to get him to the track fir and ready.
Will surely need the run but this runner likely has a big future.January 10, 2022 at 13:15 #1577372Jpr one is different Gravy as anticipated but Tango Tara justified my support in the market for a win without the favourite. Nice to be back in the “winners” enclosure after a poor Saturday. This one was full of confidence despite such a long lay off and the jockey spent plenty of time checking on JPR ones proximity to get the timing of his ride correct. He was never going to win here and the need to ride within certain constraints was evident. Unlikely to go off at that price again in similar company, but no suprise to see TT step up in grade.

1.40. OUR POWER
WIN
There was a lot to like about the way
Our Power battled all the way to the line against Jacamar last time. Nevertheless Jacamar had a lot in hand that day and a Danny Mullins masterclass saw him home next time at Kempton on boxing day.
That franking of the form will have given the two Sam’s, Thomas and Twiston Davies plenty to work with and expect them to get home again today.

Disappointing when they go down at the first but that is the glorious uncertainty of racing. Main thing is the jockey and horse come back safely.January 12, 2022 at 08:30 #1577613Travel Datuk

Won without being pushed by Zac Puriton in December.
This is Zac’s comeback meeting after being involved in a racecourse pile up and lengthy stay in hospital.
The enigmatic Travel Datuk is a cult horse in Hong Kong.
Won last year for the first time in 45 runs.
Previously a winner in Ireland 2015 under Shane Foley for Jessica Harrington.
This horse had been very consistent placing many times in Hong Kong over the years without winning and has built up a massive following around the world. He has just dropped back to last March’s winning mark and has the stall 1 draw. An unlikely winner today but a chance to return to place form which made this horse so popular.
He gets the 11th attempt in my around the world 🌍 in 80 ways challenge and will hopefully make the fourth step if he places.
Figures5000706-46962682554286974833-23285258-7223488233-2215490078
As you can see from Travel Datuk’s Hong Kong record, he runs up to place form regularly.
If he has come back this year in the same mood and retains ability he will earn some more place money.
Stall one is not ideal as he likes to run on late so may well get behind early on and would have to switch to the centre or wider.
Lightning strike has a very strong chance here so a good win bet IMO which allows an each way dabble on the cult horse.January 12, 2022 at 11:57 #1577640Ran well did lightning storm and stuck to the rail like glue. But wasn’t travelling strongly enough and led in the home straight but was passed by a wave of three horses out wide off a slow pace.

Is the bonus selection….
Ran very well on reappearance at Southwell under a tender ride to take third.
Ran ninth in the Chesham behind Chindit as the only unrated runner and beat two home a 93 and an 88.
Starts handicapping off 77 so potentially well treated stepping up in trip faces 3 course and distance winners and if handling this extra distance we have a potential group horse in a handicap here.
Prior to these three runs Insomnia had won here on debut over 7 furlongs last March after a poor start so should now be ready to step up in trip 10 months on.
The saver bet here is one of the course and distance winners
PRINCE ROCK
Win without insomnia 7/1
PR is up 3lbs in the ratings with a 4lb penalty for winning here last time out and has every chance here. All hinges on wether Insomnia is meant to stamp class on this race or is being aimed at another target but 77 is very lenient an assessment.January 13, 2022 at 11:21 #1577815Anyone who followed the advice and backed Tango Tara the other day to win without jpr one will have enjoyed watching the race as the horse was ridden to “specific instructions” which revolved around the proximity of the subsequent winner JPR ONE. Possibly one of the best selections so far on the thread.
COREY’S COURAGE
Win
4pm
Olly Murphy is on holiday in Dubai right now.
And his string of horses are in good hands.
He sends out bumper winner Corey’s Courage to make his hurdles debut in the concluding novice race today.
Corey’s Courage beat a decent field in a bumper 287 days ago.
In doing so he beat a fame and glory pair.
The runner up went on to win twice before picking up some black type last time out finishing second to Rainyday Woman by just three lengths in a listed hurdle.
Further back in the bumper that day was another subsequent two time winner from the Skeltons.
There has to be a reason for the absence but he is one of only two runners in the race to have won over the trip.
I’m hoping the stable have selected the best race and conditions to suit the horse and A. Coleman is a good jockey booking.
So if this one handles the transition to obstacles has a very good chance. Half the field are first time hurdlers but there is nothing of great shakes here and a win for the selection is very much on the cards.
Gets no favours here as they all run off levels, but there is clear ability in this horse……

Wolves
Off for a long spell since suffering a disqualification ( debatable).
Looked to have won fair and square having hung twice and impeded rival. Given that both horses were green the winning distance would have been further and looked better than the official head distance which swung the verdict in favour of the runner up.
These decisions are open to interpretation and there appears very little consistency with stewards according to the stables, jockey stature and size of race. The bigger the jockey and trainer the more the lenience.
Faces a horse ( Bearing Bob) who was gambled on last time on handicap debut who was seen off by an even bigger gambled on horse.
Penalised for disqualified head win but given lots of time to train on and Jamie Spenser rides here.

Shrewdly placed.
Dropped into a stakes race for the first time with David Evans. Raced in stakes race for Christine Dunnett.
Missed break and all winning chances lost two runs ago but still finished with a wet sail from impossible position to take second.
Winner followed up next time.
Put out over 7f next time wrong trip and still ran second.
Back here off bottom weight in small field.
Likely to bolt up unchallenged under Gina Manghan.
First visit to Wolves having raced at all the other all weather tracks in England.

Somehow I thought this was a 6f race but it is of course a 7 f contest so much of what I’ve written is in error.
I still think the horse has a good chance but if presented with the facts it would be an each way bet. But I am sticking with win at the price I got earlier. He is best in here up against higher rated horses and would struggle against these in a handicap so a reduced chance, but a chance all the same.January 17, 2022 at 16:59 #1578504I am a dreamer win
This one also has strong claims and on the draw side too given the non runner who has collaborative form with that runner and was drawn alongside.

Kodi Gold ran second for the third race on the trot.
Absolutely imperative that this horse runs over the six furlongs very well treated and mounted challenge late up the home straight and has lost nothing in defeat here.January 20, 2022 at 15:22 #15788743.30
