At Tipperary racecourse.
How? He broke a shoulder.
Probably because of those murder hurdles used in schooling sessions as well as in races at that venue with the name Easyfix.
If you take off a bit too early you land on top of the hurdle and you break what? Your shoulder……
What a terrible loss! Not only him, but all the other horses killed while jumping Fixed Brush or Easyfix hurdles.
Sometimes I still wonder why people complain so much about the National. No one seems to run a campaign against those hurdles, because hurdle races are apparently not so much on the agenda of Animal Right groups. Just being opportunistic when the GN is run and not bother about the every day fatalities.Rest in Peace Solwhit!
November 7, 2014 at 20:44 #494718So so gutted about this. One of my all time favourites and such a genuine, honest horse. Commiserations to Charles Byrnes, his syndicate and all those who loved him.
November 8, 2014 at 00:28 #494726Another beautiful much loved horse lost, it’s just too sad and absolutely devastated to hear that he has gone.
RIP Solwhit you beautiful boy so sad not to see you again.
Commiserations to all connections.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 8, 2014 at 01:27 #494729Have many memories of this horse, he was owned locally and he gave connections some great days.
For a couple of seasons he was the only horse around able to mix it with Hurricane Fly, and I don’t think he got the credit he deserved at the time.
RIP Solwhit
November 8, 2014 at 19:28 #494785He was a true champion in my opinion.
I didn’t know many horses which were able to win a Champion Hurdle race and then a World Hurdle.
This horse was great. I’m gonna miss him. My thoughts are with his breeder which was so proud of his horse.
Thanks for the memories old boy.November 9, 2014 at 14:37 #494826I took this after his 2013 World Hurdle triumph. He was a very good-looker. Finished first or second in 20 of his 23 hurdle races. That is some going. Four of his seven second place finishes were against Hurricane Fly. RIP Solwhit.
