Thanks for the link Trip. It looks and sounds like a good day out. Bit of a hike to take him there but maybe one day we’ll make it.

July 29, 2013 at 10:40 #446792Change of plan, it looks like Newmarket on the 22nd is now on the agenda as my Son Alex is demanding we go to this open day as he received a post card this morning from the/a? owner of Snow Fairy(I cant read the signature) inviting him to go along. Snow Fairy will be parading and it is being arranged that my son will receive one of Snow Fairy’s plates as a souvenir. I had only just cycled into town to put some money into my internet transaction card account and I’ve just spent half of it now ordering Alex a Snow Fairy t-shirt.
Any recognise the signature?

July 29, 2013 at 11:32 #446795I think the owner is called Christina, so looks like its from her.
What nice people! Ed’s yard is great to look round, last year he had snow fairy and red cadeaux out parading, was selling nice signed photos of them both for a couple of £ to charity, really made a good show of the open day. I’m sure your lad will love it.
July 29, 2013 at 11:46 #446797What a wonderful gesture by the owner Nathan, your little boy must be so excited about meeting his hero and receiving one of her racing plates, it’s like your Fairy Tale has a happy ever after ending a day to remember, don’t forget to take lots of photos.

If you decided to arrive early in Newmarket and stay the night before the big day The Rutland Arms is a very reasonable hotel and is located centrally in the High Street. It is close to the Horseracing Museum (I’ve spent most of the day in there at one point..so much to see). They arrange tours to the National Stud and the Gallops bookable from the Museum.
When you go to the July Course for the afternoon of the Open Day look out for the life size statue of Hyperion (rearing) with his handler situated in the middle of the roundabout just before the entrance to the Course and the National Stud, it’s my favourite landmark in Newmarket.
So many stables are open on that day it’s impossible to visit all of them and of course I expect you are going to spend most of your day at Ed’s yard by the sound of it. Maybe if you do have time try to get to John Gosden’s and see Kingman I think 2 stables would be the max you would fit in. Let’s hope the sun shines and they raise lots of money for charity.
Here is a link for The Rutland Arms..the Hotels will get booked very quickly so best to book early if you are going to come…
Have a great time
Jac

July 29, 2013 at 22:40 #446878Thanks aji, I will know who to ask for.
Cheers again Trip, still not decided 100% about taking him as it’s such along way but circumstances have dictated he’s coming with me to Goodwood Wednesday so if he takes the journey well then it’s a possible. Do you know if The Rutlands Arms has an onsite or nearby car parking facility’s?
Yes Moe, if we make it then plenty of photos will be in store.

October 5, 2013 at 23:07 #453791Well sadly we never made it to Newmarket due to one thing and another but if you have a twitter account and type in Snow Fairy there are plenty of photo’s of the horse with proud owner on the day.
We had another surprise sent to us the other day when Snow Fairy’s horse shoe was posted through the letter box. My son Alex was over the moon with it and when I came home from work he came running down the street waving it in the air and screaming, I thought he had murdered someone.
So we’ve got 2 letters, 1 postcard, 2 photos of which one signed by Ed, 1 t-shirt and now a horse shoe. When Alex grows out of the t-shirt I’m going to try and get the lot framed together.

October 6, 2013 at 00:08 #453800Listen out for a knock on your front door tomorrow Nathan I hear Snow Fairys on the look out for her missing shoe and she heard that some Prince Charming or other down Somerset way was planning on hanging it on his wall..
She might want to stay for tea so tell your little lad to have plenty of ‘Fairy’ cakes ready.

If she did manage to make it then I would take her for a spin around the park but the fairy cakes would all be gone, my motto is see cake, eat cake.

October 6, 2013 at 09:50 #453829Bloomin heck; my eyes have welled up reading this. Never ceases to amaze me, the kindness of racing folk..reminds me of the old Desert Orchid days when the Burridges opened their doors to his adoring fans and made us feel he belonged to all of us [which he did].
October 6, 2013 at 09:58 #453832Yeah agree Moe. This will make you laugh, Alex had to do a self presentation about himself at school to last at least 2 minutes all the other kids bought in and talked about photos of family and favourite places whilst Alex took in all the Snow Fairy stuff and told everyone that she beat Frankel……

October 6, 2013 at 23:09 #453967What a lovely story, made me smile too
Never a quiet moment in your house now Nathan
Moe what happy days we had with the Desert Orchid Fan Club, Midge Burridge was a real star and when she heard that my daughter Louise was seriously ill she sent her a plait of hair from Dessies Mane and signed a postcard with it. That is her most treasured possession. People are so lovely.
I’m sure Nathan’s little lad will treasure Snow Fairy’s shoe in the same way.
