    I’d often wondered in passing about the name, but never really thought that they were sponsored by a company..in fact the wondering never moved on to the ‘thinking’ bit

    The question was asked at Cheltenham on their radio set up.
    The answer from the trainer was that indeed was to do with mining.
    Apparently Mr Potts ( and possible Mrs or both) devised a machine that revolutionised mining.
    Hence the name of their horses and the various continents it is now used on.
    Turned them into multi millionaires.

    They also had a horse called ‘Green Mining’ in training with De Bromhead.
