El gran senor must have really impressed at 2 to get an officail rating 2lbs superior of Johannesburg. Arazi’s performance in his juvenile was simply the most breathtaking race ive seen. (I know Daylight agrees with em on this one.) Rob – for a horse that everyone said wouldnt stay a mile, johannesburg did well to win the race by stamina. the leaders fell in a heap , but there was never any sign that Johannesburg wasnt comfortable going that pace. For a horse with stamina doubts to turn out that performance. The doesnt seem to be half the hype-hoopla surrounding him. Quotes coming out that hawkwing might be the best. etc. etc.

Nayef, celtic swing, distant music , alhaarth were considerd home and hosed in the guineas by many at this stage of their 3yo careers. What johannesburg did was light years ahead of any of these four.

I’m not doubting the horses ability to stay a mile or that he couldn’t go the pace – what i’m saying is that the others went too fast and that Kinane took full advantage of this in settling the horse in behind them.

Aidan – sitting a couple of lengths of the face was a hundred times better than going hell for leather with three other horses.

So do you think Johanesburg wouldnt have on if he had been up with the pace?

If Johannesburg had gone as fast as the others early on i think he would have struggled to win.

Obviously there is no way we can say for sure what could’ve happened.

in my opinion both 2000/2001 were both very good years (looking at the horses aiden/daylight have mentioned) .

banks hill will i think be very good next year as long as she gets her ground.

re johanesburg i presume he will go to the kentuckey derby next year so if he winsor places in that will he race over there next year??

the fillys may be stronger next year with quarter moon queens logic revealing and cumanis horse (the name escapes me).
mh el gran senor was very impressive as a two year old especially his dewhurst performence beating a harwood horse ela man mou i think cruised home should have remained unbeaten if u ask me eddery gave it the most appalling ride in the derby
suny

i know el gran senor beat rainbow quest in the irish derby u may be right though about the dewhurst i will check when i am home tonight but i think it was not rainbow in the dewhurst i agree he was a great horse but i think eddery was responsible for the loss not only from seeing the race but later i read roche autobiography he says he was riding for second place when el gran went by but eddery riding gave him the encouragement to have another go (not word for word)

shoukld be a good race between sakhee and banks hill worth traveling for

yes gossemer is the one i meant (awful name ) i thought quarter moon and 2 of cecils were quite promising of course they may not train on but there is hope

wonder how cecil will fare next year

It was Rainbow Quest in the Dewhurst. I think of the 2yo fillies from last year Gossamer has alot of potential, and Protectress for Cecil if he gets everything together again.

Just out of interest Prince Regent why is Gossamer such an awful name. As a daughter of Brocade I would say she was fairly well named.

Brocade – Silk stuff, woven with gold and silver threads, or ornamented with raised flowers, foliage, etc

Gossamer – A soft sheer gauzy fabric.

Certainly beats Bint Salsabil et al!
