It is a no bet race but I would like to see Kalif Du Berlais win. I had high hopes for him at the start of the season and would like to see him get back on track.
Perhaps his effort at Exeter looks slightly less disappointing now and the Nicholls team appears to be in better form, so there are reasons to be optimistic.
January 10, 2026 at 10:36 #1749975He’s a horse to take on all day long and I’m keen on Boombawn
January 10, 2026 at 10:48 #1749980It would be bitterly disappointing if Kalif Du Berlais couldn’t beat this lot. He’s top rated (albeit only by a pound from Master Chewy, from whom he receives three pounds) on official ratings and at least three years younger than each of his rivals. Edwardstone is way past his past, Boomtown is very hit-and-miss and has a highest winning mark of just 135 (yes, it isn’t a handicap today but that number shows just how much he has to find), while Master Chewy has only ever won three times (all over two miles) and has to shoulder the aforementioned penalty.
If Kalif Du Berlais has any pretensions to being a genuine Grade One horse, he has to win this but it’s a no-bet race for me.
January 10, 2026 at 10:56 #1749982He’s failed to deliver so far and his form running this way is dismal to
January 10, 2026 at 12:06 #1749998Master Chewy 13-2 for me
January 10, 2026 at 12:27 #1750006The favourite is priced up on possible potential who was dreadful last time out, Boombawn 7-2.
The more I know the less I understand.
January 10, 2026 at 14:33 #1750026I can’t believe I’m backing 12 year old Edwardstone, but 4/1 WIN was tempting enough for me, especially after Alan King had two winners on today’s card.
January 10, 2026 at 14:43 #1750042Horrible to watch. What a loss….
January 10, 2026 at 14:45 #1750046Horrible, just horrible. What a terrible day it’s been.
January 10, 2026 at 14:45 #1750047Sad to see, he was happy out in front and jumping well.
January 10, 2026 at 14:51 #1750051Well, it’s wonderful to see Edwardstone back in the winner’s enclosure and looking so well and enthusiastic during the race, but horrendous to see the injury to Kalif Du Berlais.
January 10, 2026 at 15:04 #1750056That’s just horrid.
Haven’t watched a replay but did Cobden ask him for that crazy leap ?
January 10, 2026 at 15:41 #1750071Just catching up with results, sorry to see this news and about Harry Derham’s youngster.
January 10, 2026 at 16:15 #1750081Can’t help feeling 12yo Edwardstone will be retired now, after a win in those sad circumstances. Yes or No?

As far as I could see the horse took off a stride early out of Harry Cobden’s hands. He was well on the way down crossing the fence and I suspect the injury was caused by hitting the base frame.
