5.05October 21, 2022 at 17:09 #1619445Alice Stevens, Gina Andrews and Izzie Marshall are all excellent Point jockeys.
Many may have heard of Andrews, but Stevens and Marshall are also very talented and great value for their 5lb and 7lb claims respectively.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 21, 2022 at 18:21 #1619462Didn’t fancy anything today so left it alone. I was hoping for a better price than 7/2 for Strong Leader in the bumper tomorrow, however. No bet at that price.
One i do like is in the race persons of sound mind wouldn’t consider a bet on – the Pertemps Qualifier. The Real Whacker is 16/1 and i can not fathom why. A real gangly, backward type last year. Hopefully he’ll have beefed up a bit over the summer. He’s one i’m looking forward to this season.
October 22, 2022 at 16:14 #1619589Last three winners at Cheltenham all trained in Ireland.
And it is only October.
October 22, 2022 at 16:38 #1619595I don’t think you could ever see a more calm, sympathetic ride on a 3 mile novice chaser as the one Chemical Energy just got- granted his only 2 rivals folded early and it wasn’t exciting but it was the lovely educational jumping round that was the thing to see. Davy Russell is the master.
October 22, 2022 at 17:13 #1619604Make it the last five winners.
October 22, 2022 at 18:16 #1619614Irish dominance. Must be said there is a reasonable helping of British cowardice and self-harm involved.
October 22, 2022 at 18:28 #1619615Cowardice for sure. Only 3 runners in the novice chase, all trained in Ireland. (5 were declared with 2 non runners, 1 of them trained in Britain).
Did no British trainer have anything suitable to run in a novice chase worth £13,000 to the winner?
No doubt they will will be wailing about prize money soon…
October 22, 2022 at 18:59 #1619620Is it “cowardice” to swerve horses you know you can’t beat or simply sensible placement of your horses?
Even the more modest win prize money elsewhere would be higher than the place money here, plus many a handicap mark can be ruined without winning a race.
Got to say I’m warming to Charles Byrnes.
134 was the mark needed to run in the Pertemps Final last March.
He’s brought Shoot First over off 129, landed yet another thumping gamble by a couple of lengths, the horse looks sure to go up now just enough to sneak into the Final and we now won’t see Shoot First again before then.
Talk about job done – what a guy.

October 22, 2022 at 20:28 #1619629I totally get what you mean, CAS, but if you’re an owner who wants your trainer to place your horse to best advantage, you’re going to prioritise your horse running where it has a chance of winning above whether it makes British racing look good or not.
If I owned a horse I’d swerve those talented Irish raiders in a heartbeat.
I’d rather win at Plumpton than scrape fourth place at Cheltenham.
