I don’t think it’s controversial to assert that moderation of this forum, if it occurs at all, is next to non-existent.
Now that’s not necessarily a criticism – it leads to very free and very open debate.
But do forumites feel like it’s a scary Wild West, where there’s never a sheriff in sight, or do they love the utter free for all?
Ok, some forumites get called expletives occasionally and the offender gets clean away with it, but is that a price worth paying in the interests of free speech and debate?
It manifestly doesn’t bother me as I’m on here every day regardless, but I was wondering what others thought?

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 14, 2021 at 14:08 #1572434Am in two minds about this one Ian.
Most of the time leaving posts on the forum actually makes the offender look silly. Sometimes feel it best if we sort things out ourselves. When a mod steps in it only gives a short term cooling of any issue.
I have sometimes though why doesn’t a mod step in there, only to find a few posts on everyone is back to normal. Can’t be an easy job.
On at least one occasion someone was banned for what looked like my benefit. But I didn’t want him banned. That’s not to say it wasn’t the right decision – as I gather he kept on getting into trouble with mods. Dare say we don’t see everything that happens on here.
However, although at the moment there is just some name calling etc. is that only because there is supposed to be a moderator around? Would it increase to an unmanageable level that would push people away if TRFers knew they’ll get away with it? What if – because Ricky and Tank insist on calling me and thee “bedwetters” – we started calling them “Super Spreaders”… Would that escalate things? tbh name calling does appear childish, although childish is occasionally fun I suppose…
Am sure we’ll all be best of pals once covid is over.
Well, may be Ian and Ginge will go back to being Labour Vs Tory.Value Is EverythingDecember 14, 2021 at 14:12 #1572436On balance I think it is generally OK. I tend to skim over the posts where posters are making personal digs at other posters but I appreciate some people might be put off by that kind of atmosphere.
I use a few political sites. The moderation varies, some have very little while one in particular is very actively moderated.
The sites with little moderation can attract unpleasant “trolls” who are just there to cause trouble but at least they can be blocked. On the other side of the coin, anyone who expresses an opinion which is against the prevailing consensus of the site can often get picked on – which is not pleasant either.
On the actively moderated site I sometimes use, with the clear rule “play the man not the ball”, I do think the mods are sometimes a bit over zealous and use the rules more harshly against posters who are offering a contrary opinion to the site’s view.
Moderation is a thankless job and someone will always be unhappy how it is done. On balance I think it is OK here and there are some sections which do not need moderation anyway.

Ginge, I’ve never called you or anyone else a bedwetter-Ever. So don’t say I have, you arsehole.
I’ve called for this forum to be moderated before and I certainly think that it should be- with the likes of ID telling me to f##k off on here and he never even got a slapped wrist. Then there was the strange fella calling me a racist bigot- again with no punishment or post removal

ID is typical of one who can give it but can’t take it because he is a narc and feels superior to others.
Anyway, my days of arguing on here are behind me, but had to reply to this!
Best wishes to all
December 14, 2021 at 14:35 #1572441Thanks for the replies, all.
I think all respondents have made their case….while simultaneously reaffirming what they’re all about as posters.

I’ll be checking mind. Seem to remember “gobshites” or didn’t that include me either? It’s still silly childish names.
Of course I never do that.
Value Is EverythingDecember 14, 2021 at 14:42 #1572443GT, we often disagree but you have shown your quality in civilised debate time and time again.
I once accused you of being patronising and condescending – you didn’t bat an eyelid, you merely expressed mild surprise, asserted that was never your intention, and we all moved on, with me acknowledging I had been mistaken and with my respect for you higher than ever.
Can you EVER imagine this fella displaying 1% of your quality in a forum disagreement?
I can’t – your superior dignity makes you the winner time and time again.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 14, 2021 at 14:49 #1572444May be a “careful lads” (usually is lads) might do the trick from a mod.
And if it doesn’t cool it.
May be a PM saying “delete X or I do”.But although have got into a few handbags at dawn, tbh don’t think I can remember ever receiving a warning. Do we get yellow carded?
Do think TRFers can help by keeping feelings from different threads apart. Seems better in that respect than it used to be. I know me and Tank can have a right go at each other on one thread and then mates on another different thread / topic. The way it should be.
Value Is EverythingDecember 14, 2021 at 14:51 #1572445Much appreciated Ian, we have a mutual respect.

Get out more😀😀😀😀😱😱🤷♂️😱😱
December 14, 2021 at 14:57 #1572448Be good to hear from Ricky and Gamble on the subject, as well as other calmer TRFers. We shouldn’t really believe that just because we are ok with the stuff we say to each other, doesn’t mean others (who don’t voice an opinion) are ok with it.
Value Is EverythingDecember 14, 2021 at 14:59 #1572449Oh, talk of the devil.
Got to come clean.
That made me LOL Ricky.
Value Is EverythingDecember 14, 2021 at 15:01 #1572450Think I used to buy Drill for my budgie.
Value Is EverythingDecember 14, 2021 at 15:01 #1572451I agree, GT.
There may be some who would post if they felt it was less confrontational and less of a free for all.
Then again, there may be those who love watching the “car crash” disputes and would be bored without it.
The more diverse the views the better.
