What a cracking race we have in store this afternoon at thurles. Venalmar, bob Lingo, Whatuthink, Give It Time , Essex, Wright Flyer, Zaarito. Who would have thought Venalmar would be 8/1 for his beginners chase……
A nice performance from the winner.
Defeated Forpadydeplasterer over hurdles and also chased home the likes of Catch Me and Muirhead.
Whatuthink should be better over further (went close over three miles on heavy ground last season), so it was even more impressive that he managed to beat such a good bunch of novice chasers over the minimum distance.
Venalmar, who boasts a win over Trafford Lad as a juvenile and came second in the 2008 Ballymore Properties, made a pleasing return, in my opinion.
Making his comeback after eighteen months off, he jumped better than anything else in the field (even the winner was slow at a few) and wasn’t given a hard time.
He travelled sweetly with the leading players before making no impression when meeting the stiff uphill climb to the finish. Slippers allowed him to come home in his own time at this point and the horse didn’t have a hard race.
Back on the track. Jumped well. Travelled well. Wasn’t given a hard time. Job done.
