Anyone else voted?
I’ve gone for
GORAM
JARDINE GREIG HANSON GEMMELL
J.JOHNSONE SOUNESS BAXTER COOPER
JORDAN LAW
Manager JOCK STEINHowever I’m more than alarmed by the number of Rangers players in my team please don’t confuse me with a blue nose
I’d have had David Narey instead of Greig…. I never understood the "wisdom" that said Narey and Hansen shouldn’t/couldn’t play together, two of the classiest defenders we’ve ever had.
I’d put either/both Ronnie Simpson or David Harvey ahead of Goram but none of the these were in the short listIt was very hard leaving Dalgliesh out but he was always a better player for his club than his country, Law and Baxter are the only nailed on selections, they’d walk into an all time World XI and Jordan (or Gilzean) would make a better partner for Law than Kenny would have.
April 13, 2010 at 21:29 #290162I initially started with Sandy Jardine at right-back, but as Danny McGrain said, "I had to move to left-back to accomadate Sandy when we played for Scotland."
McGrain was the best full-back Scotland’s ever had – so I have decided to give him the number 2 berth – and as Jardine (although a good player ) is not a natural left-back, I had to go for the best balance; therefore, Tommy Gemmell, though right footed ( but equally adept with both ) gets the number 3.
Kenny Dalglish is an absolute shoo-in.
My team, managed by the great Jock Stein would be:
Leighton
(Aberdeen)McGrain McLeish Gough Gemmell
(Celtic ) (Aberdeen) ( Rangers) (Celtic)Johnstone Bremner capt. Baxter Cooper
(Celtic) (Leeds Utd) (Rangers) (Rangers)Dalglish Law
( Celtic ) ( Manchester Utd )Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning

He’s "Finnish" – ed as a keeper.

CheltenhamSpecialist – Celtic would be as well building a team round Paddy Considine as Paddy McCourt. A talented player, yes – but he has the stamina of a quarter horse. Can’t last half an hour during a game and as most Celtic fans will tell you, is one lazy sod. That is why his first team appearances have been few.

April 23, 2010 at 11:40 #291904What a fiasco, how can Jim Baxter be left out, by far the finest footballer ever to wear a Scottish jersey he’d be a shoe in in an all time World XI. It’s like leaving Best out of an Irish XI or Pele out of a Brazilian team. I switched off after that

No need for Billy Brebner and Souness in the same team , it might frighten the opposition and improve shin pad sales, someone’s going to get hurt ….and if those two don’t get anyone Jinky can always kick them up the ar*e!
April 23, 2010 at 11:55 #291906Dalglish and Law hard to argue with surely.
I’d go for the Miller/McLeish combo at the heart of the defence, although leaving Hansen out is a bit of a wrench.
April 23, 2010 at 14:47 #291947A big surprise for me was the exclusion of Martin Buchan from the original "squad"
A very intelligent defender for Aberdeen and Manchester United, who was comfortable on the ball and coolness personified.
Martin Buchan is also responsible for the quickfire line often attributed to Gordon Strachan (which Strachan never admits to stealing
)ie. Scottish sports reporter during Scotland squad get together : " Can I have a quick word Martin ? "
Buchan: " Yes…Velocity !"

April 28, 2010 at 20:40 #293004Only real complaint was ‘Lardy’ Goram in goal instead of Jim Leighton.
Himself has a point though that Martin Buchan seems a rather odd omission even from the ‘squad’.
