last seasons b365 gold cup winner iris de balme and the races top weight racing demon are both out for the season with leg injurys, also bewleys berry suffered a serious injury in the race. this follows the previous seasons winner hot welds leg injury.
also its not too long ago that on sandowns finale day that both well cheif and azertyuiop picked up leg injurys.
no wonder perhaps that this days racing at sandown is a light of former whibread days.November 11, 2008 at 00:39 #189109Monkerhostin fans everywhere up in arms !?
November 11, 2008 at 01:41 #189121Well i was at Bet365 day this year and hear are a few things that came out of it.
Poquelin who won the 2m Hurdle won on his chasing debut at Cheltenham
Knowhere who pulled up in the Gold Cup won the Old Roan at Aintree a few weeks ago
Major Cadeaux won the Mile and followed up in the John Of Gaunt at Haydock over 7f at Group Three Level
Blythe Knight who was down the field won the Diomed at Epsom and then a Listed Race at Chester
Centennial who won the Classic Trial followed up in the rescheduled Great Voltigeur at Goodwood was also 3rd in the Prix Niel and as a 2yo was 3rd behind Ravens Pass in a 3K Yarmouth Maiden in July 07
Ruff Diamond who was last in that race is now a decent 3yo Hurdler in the care of Alan King
So all in all not a bad days racing, Sure some horses have been hit badly but this happens in racing and it is still one of the best days racing in the calendar and we should have more mixed meetings in the country

Quite right!
November 11, 2008 at 02:23 #189127I met someone once who looked after horses at different courses and this person believed Sandown’s ground was more unforgiving than any other racecourse. Blamed the sub-soil. Is it clay and sand or something? Don’t quite remember the details.
I do remember Paul Nicholls once said Star De Mohaison (who was one of the favourites) would not go to Newbury for the Hennessey because he did not want the Sun Alliance winner carrying so much weight. Instead he went for a Graduation Chase at Sandown. Not been the same since.
Following year the Sun Alliance winner Denman runs in the Hennessey under top weight, wins and goes on to win the Gold Cup.

Value Is EverythingNovember 11, 2008 at 03:11 #189140How unfortunate for Henrietta Knight it is to have Racing Demon out for the season.
Having lost a few of her big owners and been out of form, losing the stable star is just cruel.
November 11, 2008 at 14:31 #189174Very true……probably going to cost her at least two chances of place money this season………

February 1, 2009 at 03:44 #207447We lost In Accord, Mick Jerome, Blue Splash & Gustavo on Tingle Creek day and obviously Pressgang & Killaghy Castle today…
Not good
February 1, 2009 at 04:34 #207457The Racing Post report suggests Killaghy Castle is still with us, Paul.
"…hope his confidence isn’t dented too badly…"
February 1, 2009 at 05:10 #207465Really hope so TYF but on another forum it has been stated that sadly he isn’t and it was also apparently mentioned on Racing Replay on RUK as well…
