    Parted company apparantly.

Definitely more to it than first meets the eye. Allardyce has ruled out a few high profile departures earlier today – maybe the chairman wanted them sold. Who knows?

Crazy decision and one that makes me hope Newcastle get relegated. Allardyce may be driven by money, but so what? He’s a proven Premiership manager who needed time; time the club weren’t prepared to give him. Did he say when taking the job that all would be fine within 8 months? I doubt it. It would need Harry Potter to turn Newcastle around in that time.
The job is not made any easier for a manager by the totally unrealistic expectations of a large part of their supporters. Newcastle are NOT a top team and haven’t been for donkeys years. (Sure Keegan did okay but that was a blip much like Derby, Notts Forest and Aston Villa having their moment at the top).
They could be a top team, they have the ground and the support – but they need to rebuild; need to establish a top, local youth scheme so that in years to come they won’t be so reliant on top foreigners, most of whom will spurn Newcastle for more glamorous clubs and locations.
Will the next manager be given such time? Don’t hold your breath.

They may as well give the job to Ant & Dec, such is the comedy aspect that surrounds Newcastle these days.

I really don’t know how the fans put up with the constant change of manager – how the hell is a manager supposed to achieve success in half a season. They are in a safe mid table position, next year they could possibly challenge for a top six slot, it’s called progress – but unfortunately at Newcastle, if they are not in the top six throughout the season, the manager gets the chop – ridiculous!

No suprise to me, he was never the right man for us.

Inept, crap football, dodgy tactics, playing players in the wrong position, etc…

    Just awful really.

A caller to Radio WM (West Midlands) this evening suggested Big Sam will be moving to Wolves. I laughed so much I nearly stalled the car.

    So it’ll probably happen.

The Newcastle job is a poisoned chalice. Maybe that is why Alan Shearer is distancing himself drom the post.

The club hasn’t won a trophy worrth talking about since 1069 (the Fairs Cup – now the Uefa Cup). They did win the Texaco Cup in ’74 & 75, but they hardly count.

Keegan’s side was good on the eye, but he allowed himself to be out psyched by the Old Trafford fox (we all remember that rant), which probably contributed to his side’s inabilty to win the Premiership that season.

Maybe the club is under achieving, or maybe, just maybe, the Geordies’ expectations are too high.

A slight side-note to this issue, I’ve just checked the BF market for the next permanent Newcastle manager.

Total matched on this event: £1,531,668
    Volume on Harry Redknapp: £1,372,112

Either this is a done deal and not much of a secret or, my favoured choice, Happy Harry’s sitting on his computer, laughing at all those silly sods backing him at even money. He’s probably laying most of it as well!

Well, to be honest, i dont think he was given enough time. But to be honest, i am not sure about Alan Shearer. I think Harry Redknapp would suit better. Still, i cant predict who will be manager. Hope they do better, they are a great club

It won’t be Harry Redknapp, that’s for sure.

Harry Redknapp has declined the offer to manage Newcastle. Apologies for this aftertiming but I decided to lay Redknapp at 1.26 yesterday and have now backed him at 27’s this morning to give me a profit which just about makes up for the loss I made when I previously laid him not to go back to Portsmouth from Soton.

So who is to be the next Newcastle manager?

Favorite is Mark Hughes who has done a good job at Blackburn. He seems comfortable where he is but this will be a chance to manage a club with a lot of potential. I think Hughes has done well because of his motivation skills and his teams always have excelllent team spirit. I’m not sure that he has the other management skills needed though.

2nd fav is Alan Shearer but I wonder if he will want to risk his star status at Newcastle by being their manager at this stage of his career. Also will Newcastle want to employ somebody with no managerial experience?

Others fancied are Keegan, Coppell, Mourinho, McClaren and Redknapp may do a u-turn but my money is on Martin Jol who did a good job at Spurs until been dismissed and has stated that he wants another job in the Premiership and can start immediately.

I think Jol could be a good shout, he got Spurs playing some nice football and got one of the shrewdest deals I’ve seen recently in snapping up Berbatov for £10M. If he did the same on Tyneside he’d probably get a bit more time to deliver what the Geordies want, which is a trophy of any description. The job may be a poison challice, but if you can win something you’ll end up getting the key to the city!

Going back to Harry Redknapp, who the hell was still backing him at 1.20? Over £4M was matched on him, and he’s turned the job down! Obviously a misguided plunge there by the punters.

To be honest I think Newcastle are in a mess now.

They probably got rid of Sam on the assumption (or perhaps reassurance) that Harry was going to take the job. I just can’t understand why Sam wasn’t sacked on Monday morning if they were going to sack him. Why did they wait until Wednesday night after letting Sam do business in the transfer window.

I just wonder if the hierachy got word that Harry would be very interested in the job and so they give Sam the bullet. Newcastle have said they want a British manager. Well looking at the betting, Mark Hughes is favourite now and hasn’t he already ruled himself out. So if you take away Hughes and Redknapp, which other British managers are out there.

There is still talk of Shearer or Keegan or perhaps both but I don’t think this would work. If they went foreign then Martin Jol would probably fit the bill in the fact that he has Premiership experience and is available – but knowing the geordie fans like I do, I don’t think they would be too happy with him.

Personally I just think Newcastle have messed up. I really do have a hunch that they sacked Sam thinking they would be able to get Harry – afterall, it was only Wednesday night Sam was sacked yet Harry was having discussions with Newcastle only last night. Now that they haven’t got him, it’s all gone pair shaped.

So look out for a knee-jerk appointment
