Obviously I was wrong in thinking faugheen would win but I still don’t think its a stable form issue. Cilaos emery ran a good race. The second run back after an injury layoff strikes again.
December 29, 2017 at 14:44 #1334723Sad to see that happening but there’s always that bounce possibility after a bad injury and winning comeback. Hopefully they will retire him now, he’s clearly hard to keep sound and once too often may see him fatally injured on the track.
Buveur D’air is as short as 4/9 for the Champion Hurdle now and it’s hard to see how he gets beat if he stays healthy. Damp squib of a race now.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
December 29, 2017 at 14:44 #1334724How about Yorkhill going back to hurdles?
December 29, 2017 at 14:46 #1334726Fingers crossed he can come back, but it seems probable will be retired now.
Value Is EverythingDecember 29, 2017 at 14:46 #1334727ATR planning on speaking to Ricci after the next at Limerick
December 29, 2017 at 14:48 #1334728Been a hell of a Christmas.
If a better jockey than Davy Russell has sat on a horse this season, I’d like to know his or her name.
December 29, 2017 at 14:49 #1334729Symptomatic of Mullins’ horses in the past few days . Faugheen never looked comfortable prior his pulling up . Any chance of re-capturing the Champion hurdle has now gone . I doubt he’d have beaten Buveur Dair in any case . Too early to write off Faugheen at this stage ; however , retirement would now seem a distinct possibility .
Nicky Henderson’s reigning Champion Hurdler will now go odds on . He won’t be beaten if completing the race .

December 29, 2017 at 15:03 #1334737Yorkhill is 5/1 for the Champion Hurdle with BetFred. That’s a joke price surely?
Some are still quoting Faugheen at 2/1 for the race. That’s scandalous.

December 29, 2017 at 15:10 #1334740ATR stating Ricci has said there appears nothing outwardly wrong with the horse but they will be getting him checked out fully to see if something shows up.
Interesting that Ricci reported that even though she won today that Townend said Let’s Dance felt flat today and barring one or two in the main a lot of the Ricci horses have not run well at all – Faugheen (pu), Djakadam (pu), Karalee (beaten 89L), Epicuris (beaten 17L), Didero Vallis (beaten 60L), Min underperforming and well touted Antey only finishing 3rd.
Probably extremely wishful thinking on my part but clinging to the hope that Faugheen may have just had an off day at work – as they say horses are not machines (even though this one got the nickname).

5/1 too big or too short?
Looking at the market, you could make a case for several E/W at bigger prices.
John Constable is something of a spring horse, and he wasn’t disgraced in the recent G2 at Cheltenham on ground possibly a bit too soft for him. He’s 50/1. The same could be said of Ch’tibello, also 50/1.
December 29, 2017 at 17:39 #1334776Amazing how the “experts” on here know better than the real experts (connections) and suggest Faugheen should be retired. Pure baloney to say a horse has bounced after nearly 6 weeks off, never had stevecaution down as someone who would suggest he could see him suffer a fatal injury if continued to be raced

Like Coneygree the horse looked lame behind but connections have denied this so it must be my aged suspect eyes (no surprise). Wouldn’t worry too much about the Champion Hurdle being a possible “damp squib” of a race with 10 weeks to go, plenty can happen before then, as today showed.
December 29, 2017 at 17:49 #1334787If Faugheen is OK, and he did just run flat (not forgetting that long layoff before his previous run) then I think he deserves to hit the track one more time – probably in the Irish Champion. If he doesn’t appear himself then I’m sure connections will pull up stumps.
With the Mullins yard seemingly devoid of a candidate for the Champion Hurdle if Faugheen leaves the game then I can’t see them not reverting Yorkhill back over hurdles. But do I think he could beat BD? No.
December 29, 2017 at 17:50 #1334789COnnections saying they think hes incubating a cold, if its as trivial as that, are people still suggesting retirement ? LOL
December 29, 2017 at 17:59 #1334797Just hated to Faugheen labouring like that; I knew as soon as Cilaos Emery was able to lay up with him that something was wrong. Feel like giving up this game

Hot lemon and an early night should do it ham
get well soon Faugheen.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...December 29, 2017 at 18:12 #1334807Yeah, it’s not a nice spectacle seeing a wonderful horse like that just drop back in that manner and be dismounted. Hopefully back to full health very soon
December 29, 2017 at 18:56 #1334817I wonder if a lot of the Ricci horses are stabled together at Colsutton as quite a few of them have run lamentably over the last few days.
