Aragorn – i agree with you in regards to Poquelin and Tranquil Sea.
I think a lot of it is down to who trains Poquelin, ok he one the Boylesports Gold Cup well, but i couldnt have the horse at the price he is.
January 15, 2010 at 18:27 #270107Me neither Gaz. Should be the other way round if you ask me.
January 15, 2010 at 18:52 #270112I think Poquelin should be shorter than Tranquil Sea. When they met, Tranquil Sea was more ready and tuned for the race. Poquelin made a hell of a lot of ground up, and improved well for his next run. I think Poquelin should be 9/2, and Tranquil Sea should be 11/2. Barber shop is also an intended runner, and a lot of people fancy him for this race. I’d have to see him appear over the distance this season before commenting. Joncol is also a classy horse, and he would have to be right up there were he to turn up, but his trainer isn’t letting much out of the bag. If those 4 were to turn up, i’d fancy Poquelin and Joncol.
January 15, 2010 at 19:33 #270125I like Joncol as well but i’m not sure he’ll show up.
January 15, 2010 at 19:55 #270130I dont see the sense in Poquelin being shorter than Tranquil Sea for this, why should he be?? I think Tranquil Sea is my 3rd best bet at Cheltenham, after Dunguib and Denman. I think hes a cert.
January 16, 2010 at 09:19 #270177He did win all those races (the seasons before) but I thought he was below par last year and to be honest I think it’s because of the change in distance. 4/5, I maintain, was a shoite price.
Aragorn, both Poquelin and Tranquil Sea,were primed for this seasons Paddy Power,i maintain they were both very well handicapped.Imagine if Voy Por Ustedes was trained for the same race and got in off a mark of 148!,he would have been 1/2 fav, bearing in mind he was a 170+ rated Chaser at the time!I keep on about seeing the wood from the trees and both Voy Pors last 2 runs emphasise that, forget him in Ireland over 3m on ground too dead for him, that was never going to suit him and i still dont know why connections even bothered to enter him.His first run when giving 10lb to Albertas Run at Ascot was always going to be difficult, particularly as Albertas beat him fair and square in the 08 King George at level weights! Fond memories for the King those,i can feel a lump in my throat as i write!Anyway if Voy Por gets to the Ryanair in the same form as last year,he is the one to beat and to say he is a bigger price than both Poquelin and Tranquil at 10/1,that makes him all the more appealing!Yes i can see 2 Kings cheering him home cometh the day!As we say in Scotland Voy Por Ustedes

10’s is a fair price but I think Tranquil Sea is the winner.

Couldnt agree more,Poqulin biggest lay of festival. Simply isnt good enuf to win this race.
February 4, 2010 at 06:32 #273872PoS is my biggest e/w bet of the festival at 16s, 14s and some 11s. Should be just about favourite.
February 4, 2010 at 10:22 #273880Planet of Sound is an interesting contender, Hobbs rarely leaves Cheltenham without a winner of some description and this could provide that, was an excellent 3rd in the Arkle last year and the form looks very solid, an eachway steal at those kind of odds.
February 4, 2010 at 11:44 #273891I am also on Planet of Sound at 12’s.
Before he runs today, i’m going to throw in a sneaky bet on Glencove Marina. I think WM might be tempted to go here and avoid the two monsters in the Gold Cup.

Gaz, he"s really a 21/2m good ground top end Handicapper, but so was Thisthatandtother,Fondmort, and Taranis and they all won the Ryanair, you can get
70
on the machine,i can see him running in the race and being right up there from the off!
February 4, 2010 at 15:48 #273936Yes MM, a former festival winner, could be worth a few bob.
February 7, 2010 at 16:20 #274704Forget Joncol for the Ryanair at 7/1, he will be run off his feet,he now needs a stiffer test of stamina!
February 7, 2010 at 16:43 #274706Think Schindlers Hunt can go one better than last year after todays performance, his form is coming back and he is still over priced.
