At this stage, the obvious question is whether Allaho and/or Galopin Des Champs go here. Very tough to call right now, and should know more in a few weeks.
The one I’m almost certainly going to have an early bet on is their stablemate Jungle Boogie. Very exciting, but very fragile horse. Really like him, probably not just as much as Gladiateur, but still a big fan.
I’ve bet him for Gold Cup already at 66’s, but he’s my only Antepost left from last season, as having cashed the rest of them out (and one injured), I wasn’t able to cash him out.
I just think this might be more suitable, and if he wasn’t so bloody fragile, if take the 50’s right now. Holding off, but shouldn’t be too long before someone breaks rank and goes NRNB on the championship races at least. That may be the best option, but at the same time the 50’s could draw me in.
Edit
Decided just to bet a few pounds on Jungle Boogie just now, after the 50’s went.Probably not a wise move, as he’ll no doubt have a good few niggles along the way at the very least.
50’s was probably the minimum I wanted to back him at without NRNB, as he must be good odds to even turn up, but I’m in now.
Added 85’s, which is not actually a good sign.
Jungle Boogie 85’s
November 12, 2022 at 14:46 #1622780Is there a slight question mark of Allaho getting here , I know there saying minor niggles but your 5 weeks away from the KG and they didn’t bother with a entry …I may well look for a e.w bet or 2 , was hoping to see Happygolucky today
November 12, 2022 at 14:48 #1622782Wouldn’t be surprised if they aimed Galopin Des Champs at this if Allaho isn’t right, if GDC shortens for this in the coming days/weeks that could be very telling.
November 12, 2022 at 14:53 #1622784But then what does Mullins run in the GC
November 12, 2022 at 18:29 #1622826Allaho was never going to go to the King george fresh so not surprised he’s not entered
If the problems are minor he will hopefully make the thurles race he uses as ryanair prep end of Jan
He will need a run before the ryanair
November 12, 2022 at 19:18 #1622839“But then what does Mullins run in the GC”
This is true, and you’d have thought the Gold Cup would be more of a priority to win, especially given how easily GDC was going at Cheltenham last year.
Is Monkfish coming back this season do we know?
November 12, 2022 at 22:38 #1622872Ben he was beating a horse who hates fencing and wasn’t right and handicapper,s… and he still fell
November 12, 2022 at 22:40 #1622873Was still miles ahead of the next best novice 3m novice chasers last year, or does that say more about the state of that division
November 12, 2022 at 22:44 #1622874I wouldn’t be calling them a golden generation , as I’ve said I want to see him in with the seasoned chasers to really see how good he is …his price is on potential not actual form
November 12, 2022 at 23:29 #1622881” Ben he was beating a horse who hates fencing and wasn’t right and handicapper,s… and he still fell ”
Well actually he slipped on a part of the course where others horses slipped that week, plus the matter of the other races where he smashed everything in sight
November 13, 2022 at 05:31 #1622886Mark what’s he smashed ? , which horse is the yardstick ?
November 13, 2022 at 09:25 #1622906Sponsored by someone who, amid very stiff competition, is quite possibly the person I detest the most in racing, yet an overdue welcome addition in my minority view in a sport which hitherto ludicrously had no championship event between 2m and 3m2f110yds.
Allaho has been a dual exceptional winner and arguably the best Chaser running at the Festival these past two years, though A Plus Tard was mighty impressive in the Cheltenham Gold Cup back in March.
I can’t have Allaho beat in any hat-trick bid if he makes it to the race in one piece.

Never heard of the King George? Or the Irish Gold Cup? The Melling Chase isn’t bad, either, although it was only introduced in 1991.
Top class performers like Half Free, Very Promising, One Man, Dublin Flyer, etc would have cleaned up had the Ryanair been around in their day.
November 13, 2022 at 10:05 #1622913I should have written: “Championship event AT THE CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL.”
Many thanks, Gladders, not only for the addendum but for wording it in that trademark manner that doesn’t make Chezza look (any more of) a complete idiot (than usual).

Allaho has 2 ‘injuries/niggles’ to get over before he can run.
I would guess O Learys would take their chance in a Ryanair without him. Galopin intented for Gold Cup but you never know.
November 18, 2022 at 18:47 #1623567I will keep Fakir Doudaries 16-1 onside as well for the time being.
