I think Al Ferof has to go for this. Not going to win a Gold Cup. Beaten comfortably at Kempton and with a couple more superior stayers running in the Lexus at the time….cannot see him reversing form.

However, winning off 11-8 in a Paddy Power shows he could win a modest renewal of the Ryanair quite easily.

Best bet of the festival is Cue Card @ 5/2 with Bet365 now they’ve gone NRNB.

If he doesn’t turn up you get your money back BUT if he does turn up does anybody think he has less than a 29% chance of winning ?

I doubt there is anybody involved in racing who would think so and he should be closer to an even money shot with that concession.

Excuses being made for Kempton for AF (prefers going left). Reportedly runs over 3m in Denman Chase rather than taking in the 2m 5f one at Ascot. John Hales would much prefer a GC to a Ryanair…I’d say he’s GC bound unless he fails to stay at Newbury

I agree Lee, I flagged up Marito earlier at 20/1 as I felt Cue Card is likely to end up in the Gold Cup. I still feel that way but now that Bet 365 have gone NRNB Cue Card looks huge at 5/2 and is a must bet imo.

I have the feeling that Cue Card’s connections are still intent on running him in the Gold Cup, likewise First Lieutenant. Al Ferof also appears Gold Cup bound as he is entered for the Denman Chase. Hard to know with Dynaste, not sure what the latest is regarding his injury in the King George.
With these 4 in the top 5 in the betting, this could make the Ryanair a very open race and I have backed Marito at 20s after 2 promising runs this year in getting within a length and a quarter of Hurricane Fly over hurdles and beating Roi Du Mee over fences last time out. Also was going OK when falling in the Jewson last year. The 20s have long gone, as short as 12s in some places, I think he has a cracking e/w chance.

He was faultless at Ascot the race before. I don’t buy the right handed thing.

He won’t win a Gold Cup. Hopefully someone takes him on at Newbury and puts him to the sword over 3 miles.

It doesn’t matter whether Cue Card runs in the Gold Cup. He’s NRNB and surely it’s not hard to see the value in 5/2 given you get your money back if he runs on the Friday instead.

There’s no way on this planet that the likes of Al Ferof would beat him over 2m5f at Cheltenham – or anywhere for that matter.

Bet365 have made a rick and it will be corrected soon.

A very good concession Lee and until they do realise the rick I’m putting my penny’s into the bet. Money back if he don’t run and will go off odds on if he does so you can even lay a bit off come the day if you pile in now.

A walk in the park, should Cue Card take the Ryanair route. Will never get the Gold Cup trip in a month of Sundays and a complete waste of time him even bothering.

    From RP

COLIN TIZZARD on Monday night gave the strongest indication yet that Cue Card will go for the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup in March rather than attempting a repeat success in the Ryanair Chase.

The trainer has been reluctant to pinpoint which race his stable star would line up in but declared that the eight-year-old, runner-up in the King George on Boxing Day, was "85 per cent likely" to step up in trip and tackle the Gold Cup.

Cue Card is currently a best-priced 8-1 behind Bobs Worth and Silviniaco Conti for the big prize in two month’s time, but is as short as 2-1 favourite for the Ryanair Chase over more than five furlongs shorter.

Tizzard said: "The ultimate aim for anyone owning a jumper has to be to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup and, all things being equal, it’s 85 per cent likely that’s the way we’ll go as things stand."

Haha! There’s a quote to rummage out on the 14th of March…
Delighted that they’re going to send CC to the GC, they’d always have been wondering if they didn’t…

Personally I think he can stay the trip with a more considered pace management approach to the first two miles compared to the kempton break-neck speed at Xmas.

    8/1 hmmm

Surely has to run in this now.
