Ruby Walsh steered Bashboy to an unprecedented third success. Watch the full race here. “You should have goosebumps about now” a classic line from the rather excited commentator
August 9, 2015 at 09:14 #1167212A great performance from Bashboy with excellent cruising speed, nimble jumping and great battling qualities in the finish.
Ruby set the old boy up beautifully and judged his race to perfection. His windmill of whipping in the finish was quite ugly to see, especially since he wasn’t giving Bashboy time to respond, but I suppose Ruby was just taking advantage of the Australian rules. Could this set a trend for the Aussies recruiting our best jockeys?
August 9, 2015 at 11:23 #1167359In name only as at 2M 6F it is not even a proper staying contest but now he is just missing the Scotish version from his CV – I saw an interview with Ruby afte the race and he commentated on the fact that they need a rule change as the 12 yr old now has to be retired as they can’t race beyond 12! He also stated that you couldn’t bring your lower rated horses over and expect to win these type of races either.
Jumps racing in Aus is virtually non exsistent, so I am not sure what impact this win will have on getting other horses travelling that kind of distance to compete. However, as Mullins was majorly involved in getting Ruby out there, he may well be looking into whether it is a worthwhile venture but I wouldn’t expect to see it happen anytime soon.

Speaking of whom – Chapper’s was MC in the preliminaries at Ascot yesterday and having managed to avoid hearing anything of him for almost two years it was quite a shock – I’ll swear he was even worse yesterday than he’s ever been – the absolute depths being when he introduced some of the riders boxing / darts style.

With a first prize of little more than £50k it’s not going to attract any interest at all.
Most trainers here can’t even be bothered to cross over the channel to France for this sort of money.

The Channel 4 team were little better yesterday. All the faux excitement about the Shergar Cup was cracking me up. I only tuned in to watch the Sweet Solera, but managed to see Nick Luck like a Schoolboy with his first porn mag, who had just found a tub of Vaseline. Three times within the space of two minutes he told us that Sammy Jo Bell was leading the “Silver Saddle” rankings. Amnesia TV at its best. The next minute he is telling us that Intillaq had beaten a strong field impressively. Oh Yeah, strong field? why was he 1/3 Favourite then?
Lay off the Viagra please Nick.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 9, 2015 at 17:45 #1167730Well done Ruby!!
But the commentator needs to take some fishermans friends LOLAugust 9, 2015 at 19:10 #1167793Stalls for jumps racing – now there’s a novel thought .
Might save a lot of pre-race shenanigans at the Cheltenham festival , or cause even more ?Great ride from Ruby ; pity the same can’t be said about the jockey
on the favourite , who gave his horse far too much to do.As for the commentator – too much . He was all over the place. Someone should have instructed him to breath out
at the right time. Talk about excited : he backed the winner, that’s for sure !Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
August 10, 2015 at 11:05 #1168964Don’t know about the horses, but the commentator had to fill his lungs a couple of times

MC didn’t know who Ron Vibert was when he did a feature on Derby Day in Jersey.
Back on subject, the Aussie commentator was WAY over the top…
August 10, 2015 at 15:16 #1169177The commentator was well OTT , I wonder what would happen if Mark Johnson or another shouty commentator was calling home a triple winner of our Grand National though
August 10, 2015 at 21:57 #1169679Nothing very Grand about that Grand National – 2m 6f, about a dozen runners, park course with no character.
Horses have probably achieved more winning a race at Plumpton or Fontwell three times.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 11, 2015 at 11:39 #1170232Extraordinary commentary, and in this instance my use of the word isn’t implicitly positive.
At least, though, we have an answer now to that oft-posited question of what the offspring would sound like if the singer out of Napalm Death and Alf out of Home and Away ever bred.
