Another RPR query. They have given Ouija Board a rating of 124 for last Saturday yet Alexander Goldrun gets 123 for barely beat a nose? Surely they should be given an equal rating is ratings are really to mean anything? A lb off her back on Saturday surely AG would have won, if not ratings and weight mean nothing?

You interrupted my reading of 20000 leaugues beneath the sea
Not a bad book but surprisingly few fish
EC it may be that the RPR’S are adjusted rather like the old
vitesse ( speed ) ratings.
You may have made a fallon
or I am out out of my book…..
‘ an underwater lake presented itself and on the bank it was clear to see a fish casting a line into the murky depths ‘
flatcagamble…I have read roots three times and cannot understand why the dogs are always white

August 7, 2006 at 21:49 #74971EC don’t get me started on RPR I think there are plenty of errors but I wonder if its me going stupid sometimes. The wfa gets confused as well.
August 7, 2006 at 21:58 #74972Raceform Interactive seem to have it "correct";
Coconut Queen 67
Carillon 77
August 7, 2006 at 22:11 #74973Aidan, I’ll need to check but it could be that Ouija Board also has a ‘+’ beside the rating? Raceform will often ‘allow’ a bit extra if they feel justified in the circumstances. It’ll be the end of the week before I get to look closer at the form but I’d imagine I’d have at least a pound between them as I thought AG had a much harder race and that if the race had been run differently OB might have beaten her more easily.
August 7, 2006 at 22:19 #74974RPR are a bit of a shambles at the minute, best left alone until some sort of sanity returns.
August 8, 2006 at 08:13 #74975Hi EC,
The previous rating for Carillon was 61+, so I presume that Simon Turner(or whoever does the 2yo ratings) has decided to upgrade the form. The ratings that appear on RP interactive on the day previous to the race are usually finalised around 7pm on the eve of the race, and are often a few pounds different. The first set of ratings are taken directly from the database; the final ratings are more considered and race specific.
August 8, 2006 at 08:24 #74976Or perhaps he’s just ‘fiddled’ it, because he’d rather have a once-raced Mark Johnston horse top than one of Ann Duffield’s that was beaten 11 lengths last time.
August 8, 2006 at 09:29 #74977Heaven forbid that a ratings service would ‘fiddle’ things to ensure a certain horse came out top.
Botteen, anyone ;)

I won’t sit here and pretend that if that is the case that RPR are the only one’s that do it. I remeber Alambic improving 57 lbs without ever stepping on the racecourse from 2 to 3.

That is almost as much as she will improve from 3 to 4!

Thanks for that, Artemis. I notice last week when working out my ratings for Goodwood using the 48h decs that the RPRs were different from those published in the RP on the day. One significant example was Spectait who was well down the figures at the 48h decs stage yet joint top on the day. I’d wondered why the discrepancy. I reckon you’ve explained it clearly. Thanks.
August 8, 2006 at 14:11 #74981On further investigation. The RP form in the printed newspaper still only has the RPR for the Ayr effort at 61. But watching the race again, you can see the horse has clearky been eased once Voodoo Moon has taken it’s measure. That could be another factor in why the master rating is higher than the ‘bare’ figure. Timeform also rated the filly 5 lb closer to the winner than the bare margin.

August 8, 2006 at 18:10 #74983So much for the poor racing eh? just goes to show if you put the work in you’ll get the rewards ;)
Well done stav and EC, I was on Peruvian Style too at 12/1 but gave some back with Monmouthshire (4.45 Bath) 20/1 – was disappointed by this one’s showing but I won’t give up on him winning races.
August 8, 2006 at 19:21 #74984EC backs a winner, whatever next .. :o
