Spacious was disappointing, but James Fanshawe hasn’t had a winner for a while and it’s entirely possible that the firm ground didn’t suit (she’s a little top-heavy).
Having backed the Cheveley filly a little more heavily than was originally intended I was hoping that, if she were to struggle, it wasn’t Lush Lashes that capitalised. Well, you can’t have everything it would seem!
That disappointment aside, Patkai was seriously impressive in the Queen’s Vase.

June 20, 2008 at 21:15 #169534My main thought after day 4 is:
Come On Steve Drowne!!!!!
Its day four and steve drowne is one away from Johnny Murtagh in the running for top jockey, with Drowne on Sakhees Secret and Murtagh on US Ranger tomorrow. Everyone has their favorite unsung jockeys and Steve Drowne and (more recently) Jim Crowley are my two. IMO he doesnt get enough big rides and I thought it was properly rubbish when Drowne got Jocked off Clowance in the Oaks in favour of a late swap for dettori. I still remember him being gutted when he picked Avonbridge over Pastoral Pirsuits in the july cup.
Looking at the odds of Drownes three (100-1, 28-1 and 12-1) against Murtaghs four so far (9-2, 4-6, Evs and 11/8 ), I would love to see him win it. I never saw the whole of flashmans papers race but drowne’s rides on Fifteen Love and Supaseus were brilliant.
Perhaps not Hardasun but all Murtaghs other three rides would probably have won with Joanna Badger on board.
