January 2, 2011 at 16:20 #334604Can’t help with link but remember backing her in World Hurdle. Was there a Stewards Enquiry involving Crimson Embers, another good horse of Fulke Walwyns and in the same ownership?
January 3, 2011 at 10:58 #334649The Stewards Enquiry thing with Crimson Embers sounds about right.
I did see this when it was on Youtube. I can’t remember who posted it, but it may have been a user who’s now going by the name of Bluemanc45. He put a load of old races up a few years ago and then they got taken down again. He’s been reposting for the last few months so hopefully they’re here to stay this time. You could contact him to see if he has it.
Even if he doesn’t have it, I’d recommend anyone here who enjoys their racing nostalgia to enjoy his treasure trove.
January 3, 2011 at 18:44 #334683I remember backing Rose Ravine when she won the Mares final at Newbury as I was there. Very good mare.

Crimson Embers was beaten a neck by stable companion Rose Ravine in the 1985 Stayers Hurdle. Both were owned by Sally Smart whose horses carried a turquoise jacket with black braces and crimson cap. Rose Ravine hampered her stable companion on the run in and was very lucky to keep the race.
Apparently the jockey on Crimson Embers Stuart Shilston, declined to give evidence in the enquiry, leaving the stewards with little option but to leave the placings unaltered.
As Rose Ravine was a 6-y-o mare and Crimson was a 10-yo gelding it is safe to assume Shilston was pressurised by connections with the mare’s paddock value firmly in mind!
Rose Ravine’s progeny included Cardinal Red, Frosty Canyon, Ringaroses and Alvino. Today Cinderella Rose is making a name for herself carrying the same silks which are now registered to Nick and Cherie Jones whose Coln Valley Stud stood Rose Ravine during her productive years. Cinderella Rose is a grand-daughter of Rose Ravine being out of Miniature Rose.
