Reported to have had surgery for colic yesterday in New Zealand and making a favorable recovery 24 hours post op.
Following the tragic loss of Sea Of Class it is sad to read that Roaring Lion’s career at stud has been put on hold, but all thoughts are with him as he fights to recover from this dreaded colic and hopes that he can return to the UK and make a full recovery.
Talk about the highs and lows of racing, this has been a roller-coaster of a week and all thoughts with Roaring Lion and the dedicated staff that care for him.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 28, 2019 at 10:30 #1449576Sounds like a relatively upbeat report (unlike poor Sea of Class where it always sounded like the vets were somewhat pessimistic) so hopefully he will make a full recovery
July 31, 2019 at 05:41 #1449985This was upsetting news, i have read that he has continued to improve, to the point of asking for food, fingers crossed that he makes a full recovery.

August 1, 2019 at 10:04 #1450166The latest news is bad, he has had further surgery.
August 1, 2019 at 13:00 #1450185Oh Crepello this the most dreadful news and I fear the worst having hung on with hope for Sea Of Class it looks like we might lose another much loved and highly talented horse to the evil colic.
Just pray for a miracle and that he gets well enough to return to the UK soon
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 1, 2019 at 13:31 #1450192Well that’s put a damper on the day. At least it sounds like he’s come through the op OK. Next 48 hours critical apparently
August 1, 2019 at 14:12 #1450195Its been such a fantastic week of racing Tonge but every morning Ive been checking on here dreading seeing his name in the Memorials section, let’s hope he pulls through this and lives a long and happy life.
There must be so many much loved horses all over the world falling victim to this killer disease when we have heard of two high profile cases within a week of each other…I hope someone will come up with a way to cure it soon.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 2, 2019 at 08:36 #1450273I think the problem with colic is that it is just a blanket term which covers a number of conditions. Treatment is thankfully improving all teh time but I fear there will never be a cure as such.
Meanwhile, encouragingly upbeat update about Roaring Lion this morning
Roaring Lion Update
Although he has a mountain to climb, we are cautiously happy with his progress today. He is bright & alert. He has been for 2 short walks, had a very small pick of grass & appears relaxed & showing good clinical signsAugust 2, 2019 at 09:13 #1450276
Thanks Tonge.. that positive update has brightened up my day..come on The Lion.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 7, 2019 at 08:20 #1450624Latest update from David Redvers (yesterday)
#RoaringLion update: lots of time out in the sun yesterday with
@CambridgeStud Marcus and Sean and enjoyed another good physio session. His catheters now removed, eating and drinking well. Obviously still very sore and quiet but taking it all in and fighting hard.August 8, 2019 at 23:17 #1450725And he’s been allowed to go home! I’m sure there is still a lot that can go wrong but reason to be cautiously optimistic I think
Beyond happy to report that #RoaringLion returned home to @CambridgeStud today. 12 days after he initially became ill. In awe of the job done by everyone to save him and the courage of the horse himself. Not out of the woods yet but can see the tree line. #welcome home champ
August 9, 2019 at 12:35 #1450753This is great. Let’s hope the good news of his recuperation continues.
August 9, 2019 at 22:27 #1450788More than I dared hope for..what a warrior he is and hoping he goes on improving so that he can return home to the UK to continue his recuperation to full health.

On my visit to Dalham Hall Stud on Wednesday I found out whilst talking about this to our guide that New Approach almost lost his life to colic a few years ago and it was her husband who saved his life
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 12, 2019 at 23:53 #1450964David Redvers on Roaring Lion’s recovery from two serious colic operations.
He is optimistic and yet still cautious as it is early days yet but the signs are good.
All thoughts are with this exceptional horse as he returns to Cambridge, New Zealand to recuperate

Find a nice field and run for fun with all the other stars
August 23, 2019 at 21:15 #1451929A terrible day for racing, losing two champions.
Sounds like he battled hard just as he did on the racecourse but it wasn’t to be.
RIP
August 23, 2019 at 22:23 #1451939Very sad news for all connections, he was a fighter on and off the racecourse R.I.P ROARING LION.
