She was a panellist Richard, so where she was personally critical of Winehouse they were her own words.
I watched it back tonight and what she said about Winehouse’s unhealthy appearance and her being a poor representative of womanhood was unkind, but no worse than much else said on that programme. I very much doubt she would say the same thing in the different times we are in now, and would not necessarily interpret it as suggesting a deep character flaw.
July 25, 2022 at 23:05 #1608601Thanks, I either haven’t seen it or don’t remember it.
Doesn’t seem to have done her career any harm, perhaps it would today.
July 25, 2022 at 23:17 #1608604I think I saw it at the time, but had forgotten. Probably because it didn’t seem particularly shocking in the context of the show.

Thank you for reminding me that Liam Treadwelll is no longer with us he was so young when he won that Grand National on Mon Mome it’s still hard to believe he is gone.
It is a shame though that by making that comment Clare Balding ensured we remember Liam’s great achievement in that way.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 26, 2022 at 01:08 #1608620Agree Triptych. It’s strange how much lasting impact a spontaneous comment can have. Over 25 years after the race, I still associate Rough Quest’s National win with Mick Fitzgerald’s “better than sex” comment.
July 26, 2022 at 11:19 #1608656Watched the Cauthen interview this morning; Rishi changed his go-to question to “What was it like…”
You’re not fooling anyone, Rish. It’s still the same banal question.
August 17, 2022 at 19:05 #1611458After Baaeed’s stroll in the International, Tom Stanley asked Haggas “How does it feel?”
Maybe the thread needs to be renamed?
November 4, 2022 at 12:14 #1621540The Great Man is in Keeneland for the Breeders Cup. You cannot keep him away!
November 4, 2022 at 21:01 #1621616He’s the personification of positive discrimination.
An absolute doughnut and I’ve forgotten more about jumps racing than he’ll ever know!
November 5, 2022 at 15:13 #1621765……and by defaulting to lazy and thoughtless conclusions that individuals only get to where they are because they’re being done favours because they are non-white is IMO the essence of casual racism .
Criticise Rishi all you like but try to leave his ethnic origin out of it ,the same way you would be expected quite rightly to criticise a female presenter without mentioning her gender ( in order to avoid being sexist). Simple .
Racists hiding and sniping behind their discomfiture around the diversity drive need to think again if they think anyone is fooled.
Rishi has been good enough for any TV channel you care to name for many years now long before racist viewers were encouraged to default to their lazy unfounded opinions on non white people appearing on Tv.
November 5, 2022 at 16:22 #1621773Well said wordfromthewise. It’s fair enough if people don’t like Rishi’s presenting style. He certainly isn’t the worst though so I have always been deeply suspicious of the reason why he is singled out for particular criticism by some.
November 5, 2022 at 18:11 #1621808People are merely expressing their opinion, that he’s rubbish.
Just like we say that AP, Mick Fitz, Ed Chamberlin, Matt Chapman and others are rubbish.
November 5, 2022 at 18:20 #1621811It’s not though. Repeated references to his ethnicity. Unnecessary and irrelevant and yet it persists.
November 5, 2022 at 18:23 #1621813He’s a talentless, uninformed individual who offers absolutely zero to any programme he’s a part of.
It’s hardly a stretch of the imagination to suggest he’s been brought in to satisfy the stats of non white faces quotas as opposed to employing someone who actually knows the subject matter!
If that’s not positive discrimination then I don’t know what is!
November 5, 2022 at 18:23 #1621814None of those references are racist. They are aimed instead at the fact that he appears to be a beneficiary of positive discrimination, which is a completely different issue.
I think Rishi is a poor presenter. I believe he benefits from positive discrimination. Does that make me racist?
November 5, 2022 at 18:24 #1621816I too have read it suggested that he’s a beneficiary of positive discrimination.
Maybe he is – but there are plenty of lousy white people in the media too, so I prefer to focus simply on how Godawful he is.
Hope that’s ok!
