Oh firefox, you old rascal. I did say at the beginning that I was pocket talking like a man possessed. And I promise not to do it for another year!
I excuse myself, anyroad. On Derby Day I had five horses beaten no more than half a length (out of eight) and a huge LSP loss, on top of a serious mullering on Friday.
(What’s the verb structure for that? Mullered? To muller? Where does it come from, the phrase. "I was f***ing mullered last night…" It’s only just reached North of the Trent).
And anyway – Ryan Moore doesn’t need my patronage. I’m the only pillock who has ever criticised him in text. Never encountered a more popular jockey in all my years; the lad walks on water like a mallard.
Had the fellow ridden Dancing Brave into a misjudged second twenty two years ago last week, Mr Abdullah would have ruffled his hair and sympathised.
June 9, 2008 at 16:12 #167581I’m not actually complaining about Hughes because in the main he is one of the better riders, but his ride on Sly Kirk’st Liberty Valance pretty much sums up his style when clearly held. The horse looked like finishing on the heels of the first 3 until Hughes put his stick down and the horse weakened for just hands and heels and was beaten a good 2 lengths further than looked likely. I can see why e-w backers would be upset.
June 9, 2008 at 16:53 #167588David, might not those impoverished punters benefit in the future from such thoughtful handling from Hughes?
