His ride on Finjaan was sublime, totally outclassed Murtagh and showed him how to ride a group horse.
October 3, 2008 at 21:16 #183247No "sarcasm" smilie needed in that post!
October 3, 2008 at 21:49 #183250Have a look at the Middle Park thread in the big race board as well.
I am definitely pocket talking!!!!
Come on Glenn, explain this one?
I backed him twice on saturday as well and thought he should have won on Ghaidaa. He was slowly away but he still had enough horse under him but waited too long before he really got after the horse (Who responded well when he did)..
October 3, 2008 at 23:36 #183261Guys , fINJAAAN was keen and practically bolted to post , so in effect his race was over before it even began
Lets not kill R Hills over this one
Cheers
Ricky
October 3, 2008 at 23:42 #183264I was present at Newmarket today and was all set to back Finjaan after seeing him in the paddock. However, his antics going to post put me right off as there would be no way he could have won a race of that class after expending so much energy. What Hills did during the race was irrelevant.
October 3, 2008 at 23:48 #183266Looking at Richard Hills’ performance at this Newmarket meet I don’t know what to say……….
It’s the same old story and the excuses are running thin.
I mean, how are his knockers gonna explain away again how he’s delivered another massive profit for his disciples? Twelve points up at rigged SP to level stakes. The man’s a legend.
Thank you Richard, once again, for your mastership in the saddle.

Sigh… Yet another of these pocket-based whinge threads, which are so tedious, stupid and unenlightening. Mr Hills has good and bad moments, like any other jockey riding today. Why go on about it?
Personally, I thought his ride on Redwood (to win one of the Thursday Newmarket maidens) was as fine an exibition of sympathetic horsemanship on an inexperienced colt, and of skilful strategy in patiently picking a way from the back of a large field, as I seen in a good few weeks.
That was a delight to behold. Why not enjoy the skills and stop moaning about the bad luck?

And that’s why he is one of the best in the saddle at the moment, great ride on Tazeez

I thought he’d done well, but after the race, I checked the draw – he was drawn 21!!! This is some ride to get over to the near side from 21!!

October 5, 2008 at 02:49 #183417I was there today , and the cross wind made it impossible for runners on the far side to win , this was a virtuoso performance from horse and rider
well done Richard , it was one heck of a ride , but Im sure Glen will be drinking a glas or 2 tonight with a smug grin plastered ………

October 5, 2008 at 14:46 #183452The Richard Hills win will go some way towards reducing the overall level stake loss at Newmarket over the past five seasons.
The credit should go to John Gosden the master of Newmarket’s Rowley track.
A 100 pound win bet on all his runners there over the past 5 seasons show a level stake profit of 127,000 pounds.
About time he received an invite to Buckingham Pace to receive his knighthood!
October 5, 2008 at 18:47 #183527Another great ride by Hills on Naaqoos. Different class

I’m afraid Richard didn’t ride Naaqoos. Davy Bonilla did.
Unless you were meaning to be sarcastic and I missed it…?!?October 5, 2008 at 20:00 #183551Ok Ill give him that but excellent ride on Youmzain. Knew the French Filly was different class so decided to race for 2nd place instead!

I agree entirely. I wish the Beeb were showing the Arab Race that follows as Richard rides the absolutely incredible Madjani for Sheikh Hamdan. He looked supremely confident on one of the greatest racehorses of all time when cruising home at Lingfield in August and I would love to be able to see how he copes in his swansong against the very best of this generation at Longchamps today.
Best of luck to Madjani, Richard Hills and trainer Gill Duffield.
October 5, 2008 at 20:09 #183563Youmzain didn’t get a clear run, but then Zarkava probably came from an even worse position two or three lengths behing Youmzain. Zarkava won it so easily that even if Youmzain had got a clear run it would have made no difference.
