This horse when trained by Nicky Richards could not win a novice chase at Sedgefield, yet today for Gordon Elliot wins a grade 1 chase at Fairyhouse.
I am at a loss as to know why the enormous improvement since being switched.
Is it Nicky Richards or his jockeys or is Gordon Elliot just a better trainer.
Still a surprising amount of improvement which ever way you look at it.March 31, 2013 at 17:50 #434587Equizoom* – now available in Ireland**!
Top National Hope Chicago Grey says*** ‘Despite winning the NH Chase, I looked like winning precious little else – until I tried Equizoom****! The tasty equine supplement that helps you piss up in 20f contests despite being an out and out plodmeister!’
*Not really.
*Not available in Ireland, because it doesn’t exist.
**Horses can’t talk.
***Even if they could, Chicago Grey wouldn’t say this. At All. Ever. Nope.

So don't run, just like the others always do
April 12, 2013 at 12:08 #436076In my view Nicky Richards is an excellent trainer. There aren’t that many of them can produce 17% winners to runners over a 12 month period, and you would break even betting them all.
That said, the stable seem to be going through a bit of a poor run over the last month or so, with no winners in at least their last 15 runners.
There are a number of horses that seem to thrive under different training regimes and it would appear that Realt Mor is simply one of those.April 12, 2013 at 13:49 #436084This horse when trained by Nicky Richards could not win a novice chase at Sedgefield, yet today for Gordon Elliot wins a grade 1 chase at Fairyhouse.

Still a surprising amount of improvement which ever way you look at it.Realt Mor showed great potential for Nicky Richards NI, looking to p1ss up in a Wetherby novive on chasing debut,
front running
before falling at the last with race at his mercy.
Asked to do fartoo much in front
for his own good second start.
Off best part of a year before third start (so had a problem) and unsuited by beingheld up
, 3rd.
Held up
again fourth start, 3rd…
Switched to Gordon Elliott…
Fell first on debut for stable.
Back to front-running
tactics and Realt Mor showed more of that earlier potential. At last bettering the form of his chasing debut. Not just winning, but winning by 25 lengths.
On Timeform ratings although had the "worst" rating in a competitive field in the Grade 1, he wouldn’t need to show much progress to be right in the mix. On running style of all runners Realt Mor was always likely toget the run of the race out in front
. It wasn’t a "surprising" win at all, especially with the trainer in cracking form at the time. Booknakers and punters probably let the horse start at bigger odds than form/potential implied, purely because a "second string", trainer also having the paper favourite.
Gordon Elliott is a very good trainer NI, quite possibly better than Nicky Richards. But in this case Realt Mor’s improvement can (imo) be put down to a return to
front-running tactics
. Of course knowing your horses is all part of the trainer’s job. But after two disappointing runs held up, Nicky may well have told Gordon how to run the horse.

You have already tried to make this point on the other thread where I was suggesting that you had fluked the winner. Why repeat the point unless of course you are desperately trying to convince yourself?
April 12, 2013 at 18:53 #436107Not exactly a good advertisment for Nicky Richards is it.

ummmmm,
Because someone else started another thread that deserved a response Stilvi.
I looked for the other thread to put a link and couldn’t find it.
May be you’d rather I remain silent, even though I believe I can answer "No Idea"’s queries.

You can’t expect zero repetition Stilvi.
Value Is EverythingApril 16, 2013 at 15:45 #436423There is a belief amongst some that a change of stable will sometimes lead to improved performance. Also that a horse needs a holiday away from the training yard after a busy year of racing. It is as simple as that.I have found some truth in both aphorisms.
