    The Economy – it’s global.
The EU is in a worst state than the UK. Inflation near to 11%.

Whether HMG can ‘persuade’ the Prols it is not all their fault is another matter.

“The prols” historically blame whoever is in charge.

It is often said the President of the USA cannot blame the global economy because the USA is the biggest national economy on the planet.

The UK isn’t, but it’s still one of the bigger ones.

And when you’ve been in power 12 years it becomes increasingly difficult to deflect blame, either for the economy, or for anything else, not being up to scratch, as the deterioration of literally everything happened on your watch the last 12 years.

I’m not sure if Starmer will get a Blair97-esque landslide, but it’s hard to envisage Labour not winning most seats now.

And Sunak, while obviously brighter than his two predecessors, looks less convincing week on week to me and is about to preside over two years of austerity measures during a two-year recession.

It is global – end of.
Despite The Blob blaming Brexit, the EU economies are in as much sh#t street as the UK.
In fact, the ECB inaction, over last 12 months, is worse than the BoE’s inaction.
UK wise, Bailey has prob been the worst BoE guvnor since Brown gave BoE responsibility over interest rates, etc.

An interesting change of tact/opinion from Labour:

Wes Streeting says health service needs ‘significant additional resources’ to reduce backlogs, but a boost to funding is not the only answer. Labour has warned that ministers cannot keep just throwing “ever increasing taxpayers’ money” at the NHS, as the party called for sweeping reforms.
The shadow health secretary, Wes Streeting, has said he will be brutally honest about the challenges in the NHS, and added it “isn’t true” that the NHS is the “envy of the world”.

What’s even more worrying is this planning in case of week long ” power outages ” come midwinter , if there are power cuts then the Tories will be absolute toast , we,ve been very lucky , it’s been mild so far however how many old people will die in unpowered/unheated homes if a cold spell hits ….it’s OK though if you get found before freezing to death they’ll be a nice warm trolly for you in a array of hospital corridors …. PS I bet Boris fly’s by private jet to COP , another nice jolly and he can keep winking in Sunaks direction ….. He,s coming back at some point just like Trump ….2023 is looking like another clusterfuck of a year guys

I don’t think it’s a change of tack from Labour – for some time Starmer has been saying “prevention not cure” is the most cost-effective policy.

Whoever would have thought shutting down the economy, breaking supply chains, paying people to do nothing and throwing printed money at them that they could not spend anywhere might one day lead to inflation going through the roof and a hike in interest rates?

And whoever would have thought shutting down Our Precious NHS for almost everything except one particular issue might lead to a huge backlog of cases and a surge in serious illnesses and excess deaths from other causes?

From yesterday – SKS playing to the ‘Red Wall’:

The UK is recruiting too many people from overseas into the NHS, Sir Keir Starmer has said.

The Labour leader argued immigration was not the solution to a staffing crisis as he called for more recruitment from within the UK.

Asked how many people he would be prepared to let into the country under a managed migration plan, he said: “We don’t want open borders. Freedom of movement has gone and it’s not coming back.

“So that means fair rules, firm rules, a points-based system.

“What I would like to see is the numbers go down in some areas. I think we’re recruiting too many people from overseas into, for example, the health service.

“But on the other hand, if we need high-skilled people in innovation in tech to set up factories etc, then I would encourage that.”

Not Starmers best interview , they’ll be plenty of doctors and nurses already working in the service who could take this as a slight … We need more staff ,there’s no getting away from it and some will come from abroad , it’s silly to suggest otherwise

Starmer taking a pull with that lousy interview, he obviously doesn’t want to win too far in 2025 and ruin his mark for 2030.

Either that or he’s made a right rick – I suspect the latter.

I suspect Labour’s focus groups (remember they’ll be representative of all demographics, ages, voting intentions, geographics, etc) are still finding the immigration issue, ‘taking our jobs’ narrative, is still prominent in some areas, amongst part of the vote they need to win back at next GE.
He’s playing to a section of ‘the crowd’.

Focus groups, if selected properly, are a great barometer of public opinion, esp when compared to the ‘noise’ on twitter.

    Fair comment, Wilts.

He’s certainly giving Peak 90s Blair a run for his money in the “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Tory/Tory Lite” Labour Leader department.

Starmer’s supergluing himself to the centre ground more rabidly than a Just Stop Oil protester on the M25 or down an art gallery.

    It’s probably a winning strategy.

Much better PMQs from Starmer this week, I thought.

His words about pathetic middle management bullies may have resonated with many outside Westminster – he needs that kind of human cut through.

Sunak defended himself quite well, I thought, and sensibly distanced himself from Williamson and fessed up to regretting appointing him.

Defending the indefensible is the downfall of too many politicians.

But he, Gove and Dowden need to come up with something better than “you backed Corbyn,” which for it’s hat-trick today

Are we getting this every week until 2025?

The Corbyn business is becoming desperate and pathetic.
