All done, 2.5 miles of walking and a vote cast in a shade under 40 minutes.

I deliberately took expired ID and pleased to say it was accepted without question.

“Worth watching during the night just to see the smile disappear from so many smug tory faces. Marvellous.”

Be careful what you wish for mickeyjp. :)

Personally I think you’re exchanging one shower of shite for another shower of shite, but hopefully I’m wrong. It will be interesting to see whether this proposed new government will actually be effective at all and improve standards in England. I suspect things will in reality get worse for most people.

If they don’t do anything positive about immigration for instance, then they could well have a ‘French issue’ on their hands when the next election comes around.

This should be a wake up call for the Tories and with a strong leader, get rid of any deadwood that remains and then move forward with a focus on governing for the good of the country and the people, instead of big business, banking and their influential mates.

    Good luck with that.

Gordon Brown was in charge at the time of the banking crisis, Glad…
…And both Brown and Blair courted business. Understandable really, because without business there are no jobs. Something the Left of the Labour Party always conveniently forget in their “we’re on the side of the workers” mantra. :rose:

Firstly, the banking crisis was global. It was not Labour’s fault. It’s funny how the current government blames everything on Covid and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but the global financial crisis of 2008 was apparently all the fault of Gordon Brown.

Secondly, New Labour weren’t really Labour. The last time the UK had a proper Labour government was under Jim Callaghan.

Hope you win Drone, but 500 seems a tall order, I was pleased to find in my polling station that voting had been brisk but boundary changes here make it difficult to predict what will happen in this constituency, now known as Blackpool North and Fleetwood.

    LOL
My point exactly, or rather the opposite, CAS. You really can’t see that it works both ways. Yes, it is “funny” how you can blame everything that’s global on the Torries and yet can see when it was a global issue ONLY when Labour were in power.

Labour (and yes, much of Britain) is blaming everything on the Conservative government. Incidentally, I tend to agree, the Banking Crisis was “not Brown’s fault” (although it was made worse by “Prudence” spending too much and not saving enough when times were (glbally) good. But Ukraine, Covid and the Global immigration crisis aren’t the Conservatives “fault” either… And yet you’d think it was listening to Labour (and your) spin. There’s been a massive global downturn and the immigration crisis is a global problem too… And my point is if you want to blame Conservatives for the global downturn, then you / Labour can not expect any leeway with future global issues affecting Britain when Labour is in power.

Labour is gambling the global problems are going to get better. Perhaps they will, but unlikely to be much better in 4 years time and perhaps a whole lot worse.

    HDLG,
I didn’t vote because I couldn’t face voting for them after Partygate, Johnson and them then putting in Liz Truss (who – it was obvious to me (and Rishi) – was going to make things worse). Had they gone for Rory Stewart, Tom Tug’, Penny Mor’ or Rishi straight away, then I could’ve voted… And what makes it worse for me is that although my MP voted for Penny Mordaunt in the original 2022 Conservative Leadership Election, once she was out he voted for Truss. He was also instrumental in selling The Tote!

It’s beyond me that they didn’t vote for Rory Stewart. I think even I would have voted Tory if he’d been their leader!

Andy Murray failed to hold back the tears at Wimbledon, I wonder if Kuenssberg will manage it.

There saying Hunt could lose his seat ….glorious , a few of the cabinet could go , this has been a disastrous government but Jesus Sunaks campaign must go down as one the worst ever , the Tories have truly imploded and reform are now the severe right , also Sturgeon has commented that’s is a bad night for the SNP …the independence duck is dead …going in the cooker with potatoes , what a fantastic night

Ginge. Can I just say a huge thank you for not blindly voting Conservative because of party gate etc. I do hope your party has learned from this and return to their core values instead of trying to become UKIP because we do need an opposition that isn’t Reform. I was going to thank you earlier but didn’t want you to change our mind and rush back to the polling station to vote. Huge thank you to your girlfriend for voting Labour by the way!!
