Another from Ginger’s stable talking about what didn’t happen.

This isn’t the first time that Farage has attracted a milkshake. There have been a few incidents of a similar nature, but I doubt anyone would even have come close to going to prison as a result. The idea is laughable. As I said any lunatic actually intent on doing serious damage isn’t going to be seriously influenced by someone throwing a milkshake, and whether or not they get a custodial sentence.

As regards last night it was poor from both of them. If there was a ‘winner’ it was Sunak, although doubt is now being cast on his main attack line. I did suggest that Starmer wouldn’t be very be good, and I think that idea was pretty much vindicated. He concentrated nearly everything on the previous 14 years. I am not sure just suggesting anything else would be better is quite the depth people might have been looking for from a prospective Prime Minister.

A custodial sentence looks pretty much a certainty.
The woman is reported to have an “only fans” account.
If doing it for commercial gain she’ll be in jail before long.

Meanwhile the progressives at the Senedd seem to be having a little in fighting . It is rumoured that 2 Labour members will not be voting on the vote of no confidence in Vaughan Gething. The vote is non binding but he seems at risk of defeat now.

Just for you info Stilvi, there were 78 acid attacks in London alone
last year. Thankfully, despite the fact I have no time for the man,
one of those wasn’t Farage. Are you quite happy to take the risk that
the next one won’t be more extreme. If you are, I’m glad you’re not
    in power.

I didn’t see the telivised debate last night but from what I’ve learned
today it turned into a bit of a bun fight. Not particularly encouraging.

“A custodial sentence looks pretty much a certainty.”

The same thing happened in 2019 and the assailant only had to pay costs.

    And then there’s this…

Far right politician stabbed in Germany. Infinitesimally small chance the two are linked but a timely reminder of where these things end up.

As for the ‘debate’ the winner was me and everyone else who didn’t watch.

Timely reminder, what tosh. A ridiculous link.

I will try for the third time, what happened yesterday, and the final outcome, will have no bearing on the actions of any lunatic who wants to do someone serious harm. I am sure people have been jailed for acid attacks, and clearly it hasn’t prevented other lunatics carrying out similar attacks.

    Maybe, maybe not Stilvi.
But if not severely punished it will have a bearing on other people wanting to make a name for themselves with their tiktok and worse still Only fans accounts… And lead to even fewer politicians being out in public.

…And as BigG rightly says. When any substance is thrown there is a period of time where the victim does not know what the liquid is… And given what happened to Cox and Amess there is a greater possibility of people wanting to harm politicians – especially outspoken politicians. So the thought of “it could be a corrosive liquid” is real.

Who’d have thought it, me and BigG in 100% agreement in an election campaign. :rose:

I would be concerned about coming together over the idea that someone should be jailed for throwing a milkshake. I have my suspicions Ginger is actually a closet Tory.

Both main parties terrible on tonight’s Question Time.

For me the most interesting moment was when the audience was asked how many felt the benefit of Brexit. In an area that voted for it only one stereotypical ‘young tory’ stuck his hand up and starting crowing on about sovereignty. Yawn. It’s shameful that Starmer is hiding rather than acknowledging that Brexit has been a right wing con.

Chucking milk at someone is, legally, an offence. Only in the most addled minds is it comparable to dowsing someone in acid. It’s the equivalent of a car driving into a puddle and spraying you as you walk on the pavement (also an offence but ever heard of anyone done for it? Let alone imprisoned?). Heavy handed sentencing for ridiculing (as opposed to assaulting) would-be MPs will not only lead to (justifiable) accusations of repression but also the creation of martyrs which inevitability leads to escalation (and martyrs innocent of any violent intent are the most powerful). There will be a minority who think “if I’m going to get banged up for a harmless publicity stunt, I lose nothing by doing something violent which really WILL hit all the front pages”. The killers of Jo Cox and David Amess were violent, deranged maniacs. Any of us could have the misfortune to fall victim to one but they are particularly attracted to people in the public eye. MPs enjoy better security than almost anyone else in society but, tragically, in these cases, it wasn’t enough because nobody can predict every eventuality (massive clues for both to be fair but I’ll leave that for an argument about the innefectual policing)! Ultimately the MP job requires engaging with the public (apart, apparently, from my MP who hasn’t been seen for years) and that is a risk, whether you’re a MP or shop worker, taxi driver etc.

I don’t care about milkshake attacks. The perpetrators should expect to receive a sentence that hurts their pocket and some inconvenience to them. I supported John Prescott’s response to the egg attack as I believe the cowards ought to be fair game for minor reprisals without the support of the legal system for nonsense they themselves have initiated.

The BBC know full well that we were straight into COVID 19 territory as soon as Brexit negotiations were finalising. Swiftly followed by global strife this was bound to be mired in negativity.
